Why?
  • The web has undergone a dramatic change in the
last few years with a shift towards increasing
user interaction with content. SD2.0 translates
this change to solutions for the our partners and
    scientific communities.
  • The goal is to improve competitiveness and
support both society and end-user (researcher)
    needs.
  • We will regain a reputation as the innovative
leading online platform in the STM market.

Web 2.0 share, comment, modify, augment,
select, rank, interact, personalize, group
wisdom, mashups publish.

SD Concept 1 More Like This linking
  • Linking to complimentary or supplemental content
    to promote discoverability.
  • Customer Value
  • End user is able to discover relevant content
both backward via reference based links and
    forward via citation based links
  • Society partners can offer access to
supplementary content as a membership benefit

8
Concept 1 More Like This linking
9
Concept 2 Social Bookmarking
  • Allow users to store and share bookmarks in an
online service, providing users with the ability
to rate, tag, and comment on articles.
  • The generated collective intelligence opens new
ways of finding useful STM information.
  • Customer Value
  • Primary value End-users are able to bookmark,
rate, tag and comment on published articles, like
a reference manager. The end-user can decide to
share personal metadata with group(s) and/or the
    world.
  • Secondary value Find articles based on a
    folksonomy (a collaboratively generated,
open-ended labeling system that enables users to
    categorize content) and enduser appreciation.
Make use of the collective intelligence of the
    end-users.

Concept 3 Additional Article Information
  • The peer-reviewed article is only the condensed
end result of a intensive research process.
During this process multiple documents and files
    are created.
  • Many of these documents and files hold
    interesting and useful information not
    represented in the article.
  • Additional Article Information (AAI) should give
the author(s) the ability to share this
information while the added information should be
searchable and findable by the end-user.
  • .
  • Customer Value
  • Primary value 1.) Give authors the option to
upload any document and / or file they want
related to their published article. 2.) Present
these files to the end-users in an organized,
    searchable way.
  • Secondary value Exposure visibility for the
article and author. Increase usage / being read /
being cited. Every author is a reader as well and
wants to get more useful information.

Concept 3 Additional Article Information

Concept 4 Dynamic Usage Information
  • Usage can be used as an indicator of value in
much the same manner as citations.
  • Build an infrastructure that will allow us to
take advantage of the wealth of usage data
collected on ScienceDirect in a similar manner to
the way that Scopus exploits citation data.
  • Focus is on giving usage information to customers
    about full-text downloads.
  • Customer Value
  • Primary value Provide users with another
indicator of the relative value of articles.
Provide authors and editors with usage data
  • Secondary value Provide users with information
that they cant get on any other platform
