Professions Scholarship Program (AFHPSP)
In 1972, under the sponsorship of the late
Congressman F. Edward Hébert, Congress enacted
the Uniformed Services Health Professions
Revitalization Act Public Law 92-426. The
AFHPSP was created under authority of the
Uniformed Services Health Professions
Revitalization Act of 1972, and is governed by
Department of Defense Directive 1215.14
(February 1975) and SECNAVINST 1520.8A (November
1987). The programs purpose is to ensure
adequate numbers of commissioned officers on
active duty who are qualified in the various
health professions.

SCHOLARSHIP ELGIBILITY
- Be a citizen of the United States or Permanent
Resident - Be enrolled in or have a letter of acceptance to
an accredited dental school in the United States
or Puerto Rico - Meet eligibility criteria for appointment as a
commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve - Maintain full-time student status during the
entire length of the program

FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- RECEIVE FULL TUITION RECEIVE You select the
school, obtain acceptance, apply for the
scholarship. If selected, 100 tuition is paid to
any accredited professional school in the United
States or Puerto Rico - MONTHLY STIPEND OF 1,279.00 Payments will be
provided for ten and one-half months of each
school year - BOOKS FEES The Army will pay for required
books, rental of nonexpendable equipment, and
most academic fees - ARMY OFFICER PAY For the remaining six weeks of
the school year, you will receive the full pay
and allowances offered a Second Lieutenant in the
U.S. Army Reserve

Special Pays Continuous Medical Education Each
specialty has a specific group of special pays
and the Army gives the opportunity to attend many
conferences and trainings to improve each
doctors performance.
Professional Status
Length of Assignments to AD This is determined
by the time in the HPSP the time in Advanced
General Dentistry. General rule is one year per
year of sponsorship in the HPSP with a minimum of
three years of service.
Assignments to AD Each Doctor will fill out a DA
form 160-R, with their station choices, IAW AR
601-37, chapter 6-11.

Dental School Academic Failure
Advanced General Dentistry Program Failure
- Serve as a MS Officer for a time equal to the
sponsorship up to date(3 years minimum). With
the rank of 2LT. - Or pay back the money.
- Serve as a Dental Officer for the time equal
to the sponsorship in the rank of CPT.

- - If selected for AGD, you will train at one of
these Army health care facilities - Fort Lewis, Washington
- Fort Campbell, Kentucky
- Fort Carson, Colorado
- Fort Benning, Georgia
- Fort Jackson, South Carolina
- Fort Meade, Maryland
- Fort Sill, Oklahoma
- Baumholder, Germany
11Active Duty Pay
- - Commission as a Captain
- CPTs AD Pay 3,221
- Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) Non taxable
- Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) Non
taxable - Special Pays (if you qualify)
- Variable Special Pay - paid monthly and based
on creditable service / rates ranging from 3,000
to 12,000 - Board Certification Pay - paid monthly for
Dental Corps officers who are board certified and
based on creditable service / annual rates range
from 2,500 and 6,000 - Additional Special Pay - for Dental Corps
officers who accept a 1-year extension to their
current military obligation / annual rates range
from 4,000 to 15,000
