- All years from each university 1 3 /4

- 1 - 7 week blocks
- 1 day per week for 5 weeks
- Some universities send students back after a
block can assess progress / change others vary
their PCTs -

10TYPES OF SESSION 2. Observational
- More than just looking
- Encouraged to take part in EVERYTHING except
hands-on
- Preparing clinical area between patients -
Calling patients in - Watching communications
techniques of experienced podiatrists (dealing
with difficult situations) - Making padding and
dressings - Clinical reasoning around presenting
condition (aetiology, treatment options,
evidence/guidelines based practice) - Devising
short and long term treatment plans - Writing
notes and letters - Evaluating and learning use
of equipment
11TYPES OF SESSION
Both involve Specialist sessions
- Experience as many as possible
- Pain management, acupuncture, laser,
radiowave surgery, MSK (inc diagnostics video
gait analysis, pedar, Winpod, EMG, U/S, nail
surgery, wound management, - Observe and learn from specialist assessment
and practice techniques - Attempt own diagnostics

- Mixture of internal sessions (previous slides)
- External Podiatry Acute sector units, surgery
- MDT Pathology lab, physiotherapy, dermatology
- Problem Based Learning (larger cohorts, 3
universities)
NB, Students not always with Podiatry department
