Conference Goals

• Provide undergraduate students who are interested
  in pursuing
• a career in medicine with an interactive
  environment to learn more
• about the profession and to develop contacts in
  the profession
• Provide physicians and doctors with the
  opportunity to relay helpful
• information and advice to Pre-Med Undergraduates
• Inform students about the admissions process at
  UBC
• Inform students about the MCAT test and how to
  prepare for it
• using KAPLAN as a resource
• Inform students about opportunities to volunteer
  in the community

• Dr Savvas Nicolaou, MD, FRCPC

• Assistant Professor in Radiology at University of
  British Columbia in 2001
• Teaches both medical students and residents, and
  has received several awards for his teaching
• Emergency/trauma fellowship training director
• He has 41 peer reviewed articles

• Dr Bruce Campana, MD, FACEP, FRCPC
• Emergency room physician since 1987
• Practiced in Canada, United States and Saudi
  Arabia
• Worked closely with ICBC to bring awareness to
  road safety and effects of speeding

• Dr. Maziar Badii, MD, MHSc, FRCPC
• Specializes in rheumatology and spine medicine.
• Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine,
  Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine,
  UBC.
• Clinical interests include management of neck
  pain, back pain, sciatica, osteoporosis including
  vertebral compression fractures and
  vertebroplasty, as well as spinal injections.
• Research interests relate to effective,
  non-surgical treatment of cervical and lumbar
  disc herniation.
• Research scientist at the Arthritis Research
  Centre of Canada.
• Dr Todd Sakakibara, BSc., MD, CCFP, ASAM
• Specializes in family medicine.
• Clinical Interests include inner city health
  where he works at Three Bridges Community Health
  Centre in addictions and primary care. He is the
  physician for Pride Health which is a
  collaboration providing care to the gay, lesbian,
  trans-gendered and bisexual communities.

• Assistant professor at the University of British
  Columbia School of Medicine
• Specializes in Radiology where he completed his

  Hospital in the fields of Diagnostic Radiology
  and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology.
• He is a FRCPC as well as a Licentiate of the
  Medical Council of Canada..
• Completed a second fellowship in Endovascular
  Abdominal Aortic Stent Grafting at the Mount
  Hospital in Perth, Australia.

• Dr. Vera Frinton, MD, FRSC
• Associate Dean of Admissions, Faculty of Medicine
  UBC
• Received her MD from the Faculty of Medicine,
  UBC. Following Internship in San Francisco, and a
  year of family practice, she pursued a Residency
  in Obstetrics Gynaecology at UBC
• Has served three elected terms on the College of
  Physicians Surgeons of BC and serving as its
  President in 1997-1998
• Became a clinical professor at the Faculty of
  Medicine in July 1999, She has served on the
  Faculty of Medicine Awards Committee, the ad hoc
  Jubilee Committee, the Search Committee for
  selection of Dean of Medicine in both 1991 and
  1995-1996 and has been a member of the Admissions
  Selection Committee from 2000 to the present

• Graduated from SFU in 2005 with a major in
  Communicationsand a minor in History. In 2004,
  along with other friends from SFU, Chad started a
  charity, Books for Change, to collect new and
  used children's books and school materials to
  send to orphanages and schools in developing
  states, particularly Africa. Since 2003, Chad
  has also been actively involved as a Big Buddy
  with Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver.
