  • Other therapies to reduce risk Aspirin and
    Statin therapy
  • Patients with established cardiovascular disease
    or at high risk according to the Joint British
    Societies' Cardiac Risk Assessor computer program
    should be considered for aspirin and statin
    therapy as follows
  • For primary prevention, give 75 mg aspirin if
    patients aged gt50, satisfactory control of their
    BP (lt150/90 mm Hg) and either target organ damage
    or diabetes or a 10 year coronary heart disease
    risk gt15.
  • For primary prevention, commence statin therapy
    if aged lt70 and TC is gt5.0 mmol/l and the
    10 year coronary heart disease risk is gt30.
  • For secondary prevention (either angina or
    myocardial infarction), commence statin if aged
    lt75 and TC gt5.0 mmol/l.
