Member Congregation Planning Input for 2010
Cooperative Ministry Planning 1. Congregation
First United Methodist Church 2. Our
congregation views the following as significant
needs in the community that the faith community
should and can be addressing a. Direct Service
Needs (Generally refers to food, shelter,
tutoring, transportation etc) First UMC
considers supporting our schools to be a
significant need particularly those in the
communitys poverty areas. We are involved in
providing support our Children First
ministry. We are currently working with Trinity
UMC, TBS congregations and would like to expand
that among other members of the cooperative and
beyond.

Member Congregation Planning Input for 2010
Cooperative Ministry Planning 1. Congregation
St. John the Baptist Catholic 2. Our
congregation views the following as significant
needs in the community that the faith community
should and can be addressing b. Social Justice
Needs (Generally refers to correcting the causes
of the above and deals with public policies e.g.
health care, tax policies, education policies,
etc.) St. John the Baptist Catholic and other
Catholic churches in the area have initiated an
effort to educate our congregations on the
relationship of faith and justice. The program is
called JustFaith and consists of 30 weekly
sessions. Following is a short description of the
program. JustFaith is an extensive,
conversion-based process that provides a context
in which participants cab grow in their
commitment to care for the vulnerable and to
become advocates for justice. This program serves
to strengthen the growing commitment of churches
to be agents of social transformation, mercy and
compassion. The elements of the program are
weekly meetings, retreats and practical hands on
experiences to have face-to-face contact with
people living on the margins of society and to
provide an out of classroom experience. See the
www.justfaith.org , or call 502.429.0865 or

Member Congregation Planning Input for 2010
Cooperative Ministry Planning 1. Congregation
Latham UMC NE District Church Society
Ministry Team 2. Our congregation views the
following as significant needs in the community
that the faith community should and can be
addressing b. Social Justice Needs (Generally
refers to correcting the causes of the above and
deals with public policies e.g. health care, tax
policies, education policies, etc.) Our
congregation (Latham UMC) and the NE District
Church and Society Ministry Team are highly
concerned and have been working social justice
reforms in several areas e.g. constitution and
tax reform, predatory lending practices, and
others. In 1974 member congregations developed a
set of recommendations for the 1975 legislative
session. We recommend that this activity be
repeated for the 2010 legislative session. The
document could be provided to the members of the
cooperative for their discussion and potential
endorsement.

This is our current process and timeline. The
ministry groups inputs are developed using the
roadmap planning tool and the congregation inputs
are developed using an input form recently handed
out during the council development meetings. Both
instruments are on the web under Forms.
42
Most congregations fiscal year is January to
December. Thus, many of them start their
budgeting process in the third quarter. To meet
the members budgeting cycle the cooperative
budget needs to be prepared by June. The Support
Services ministry team will provide guidelines
for making this earlier time.
