7GCSE Subject Residuals
- A residual is the difference between a pupils
result in one subject and the average of all
their results - When calculated nationally, a residual highlights
the differences in difficulty between subjects - The comparison of residuals for a county or
school with the national residuals shows the
relative attainment of pupils in different
subjects - Variations due to differences in ability are
removed, since results are compared with other
results of the same pupil

- A 8 points, A 7, B 6, C 5, D 4, etc
- Attainment in maths Grade C
- Attainment in other subjects A, B, B, D ,E, C
- Points score in maths 5
- Points score in other subjects 31
- Average score for subjects other than maths is
31/6 5.17 - Performance in maths is almost a fifth of a grade
lower than the average for all other subjects

internationally recognised standard - EDCL is being offered to teachers in all

staff may also access this scheme - A pilot scheme will operate prior to this date
