James Joseph DinneenDecember 20, 1971-October
28, 2003
  • A courageous young man, father of two, who
    battled leukemia for 11 months.
  • Had a dream to help other palliative care
    patients with their communication needs.
  • Dreamt of a charity like CHIP
  • Chip was his nickname in high school after
    working at a camp under the same nickname.

In the Beginning.
  • James Dinneen diagnosed with Acute Myloid
    Leukemia on December 9th, 2002 and while sick,
    discusses with his dad Jim, the need for patients
    to communicate with their families without the
    financial stress
  • James passes away on October 28, 2003
  • Father, Jim Dinneen,
  • picks up where James left
  • off and discusses with friends
  • a way to assist those in need

CHIP becomes a Reality
  • September 21, 2004 - CHIP incorporated as a
    non-profit corporation
  • July 25th, 2006 - CHIP was officially registered
    with the Canada Revenue Agency as a charity
  • November 27, 2006 - Internet website
    www.chipcharity.com goes live
  • Feb. 3rd 2007 - official fundraising launch !!
    21,000 raised.
  • March 22, 2007 First grant of assistance made
    to a patient

CHIP MISSION
  • To assist palliative care patients of lesser
    means stay connected with their loved ones by
    providing communication tools for free
  • To assist families by providing support services

Access to laptops and computers

CHIP Support Services
  • Support Services are important factors that
    James felt were overlooked during his stay in the
    hospital that would benefit out-of-town patients
    and their families.
  • Support services would include
  • discounts at nearby hotels for CHIP members    
  • discounts at nearby restaurants for CHIP members
       
  • discounts at coffee shops for CHIP members    
  • information links on CHIP website to other
    agencies that can render assistance (support
    group, medical info etc.)

CHIPs Future Vision
  • In 2009, CHIP will
  • Have established a CHIP Fund in 5 hospitals
    across Ontario
  • Have raised sufficient funds to ensure it can
    assist at least 75 of patients who meet the
    needs test.
  • Have 15 regular corporate sponsors.
  • Have established a support network for families
