  • The Federal Perkins Loan will be applied directly
    to your bill once you have registered for classes
    and the signed Master Promissory Note (MPN)
    Disclosure Statement have been received by our
    USM Student Loan Office. If you do not receive
    the MPN Disclosure Statement, call the Student
    Loan Office at --

FEDERAL STAFFORD LOANS
  • Short Forms located on the back of the Award
    Letter should be completed by students using
    Maine lenders.
  • Sign, date and complete the reference section of
    the promissory note.
  • Return completed promissory note to the lender.
  • If you are a first time borrower you must
    complete an Entrance Interview.

Billing Process
  • Fall bills sent in July due August 15
  • Spring bills sent in November due January 5
  • Students should view their bills online at
    www.maine.edu/admin/dsis frequently for changes

  • Credit Card / Debit Card
  • -Visa/MasterCard/Discover
  • Check (Note student ID on face of check, payable
    to USM)
  • Cash (in person only)
  • Financial Aid/Scholarships/Outside Agencies

Credit Card
  • Students who wish to pay by credit card, call
    (207) 780-5800, pick option 4, which says, If
    you want to make a payment on your student
    account It will then prompt you through the
    call. This system requires the student ID Number
    and PIN Number to complete the call.

Payment Plan by Credit Card
  • The Student Billing Office will automatically
    charge your Debit or Credit Card for the monthly
    payments.
  • An authorization card must be filled out and on
    file with our office. A statement is mailed to
    you reflecting the current amount due.
  • Plans available.3, 4, or 5 payments per semester

Payment Plan Options
  • Email notifications will be sent to students USM
    email account.
  • 3, 4, or 5 payment plan 25 cost no interest
  • 1st payment is due on billing due date.
  • 8/15 or 1/05
  • Fall payments are due on the 15th of each month.
  • Spring payments are due on the 5th of each month.

Stafford / PLUS Loans
  • Most instate student loans are posted
    electronically.
  • Students are notified via email when loans are
    posted.
  • If the loan is greater than the bill, a refund
    is automatically generated.
  • Out of state loans are paper checks.
  • Students are notified via email when a check is
    received. Checks may be endorsed in either of the
    Student Billing Offices. If the loan is greater
    than the bill, a refund will be requested at the
    time of signing.

Important Reminders About Your Loans
  • Entrance Interviews-
  • Loans will not be posted until the entrance
    interview is completed.
  • Credit hours must agree between Financial Aid and
    your schedule.
  • Loans posted by September 22nd, will not be
    charged late fees.

Refunds
  • Refunds of EXCESS financial aid funds or loans,
    will be available starting on September 5th.
  • Refunds are generally available on Mondays and
    Wednesdays
  • To pick up a refund, a student must show photo
    ID. Refunds are not mailed to Dorm addresses.

Important Reminders About Your Account
  • If you add a class, charges must be paid for at
    the time of registration.
  • 100 drops must be done by September 18th.
  • Book Charges cannot be posted to student
    accounts.
  • You can access an accurate bill on the WEB at
    www.maine.edu/admin/dsis.
