5At birth, Michaels Pulmonary Artery was not just
narrow, it was gone. It never developed. So in
his first surgery, the doctors had to connect
other arteries to the lungs, then in a later
surgery they implanted a donors pulmonary
artery.Later they had to insert metal stents to
open up the vessels as he grew. Then in this
surgery, they expanded the old stents to reduce
the high back pressures in the heart.

Left pulmonary artery to the lung. This stent
is not as small, but had to be enlarged.
Right pulmonary artery to the lung. The stent is
dangerously too small and had to be enlarged soon.
14Mikes After Picture
Left pulmonary artery to the lung. This stent
is also now much larger.
Right pulmonary artery to the lung. The stent is
now much larger, allowing better blood flow
lower pressures in heart.
