Tropical Atlantic workshop7-9 June 2004, de Bilt
WELCOME
Following earlier meetings, the objectives
are review recent progress in measuring and
modelling Tropical Atlantic circulation and
variability coordinate exisisting plans and to
define future needs for observational and
modelling experiments
2
  • Timely Clivar TACE (Tropical Atlantic Climate
    Experiment)
  • Objective
  • To advance understanding of coupled
    ocean-atmosphere processes in the tropical
Atlantic on seasonal to interannual time scales
in order to realize the potential predictability
    of regional and global climate
  • Implementation
  • Enhance existing observing system to provide the
data needed for research and operations (where?
    what?)
  • Improve ocean synthesis and coupled predictive
    systems
  • (how?)
  • - Collaborate with prediction centers and the
regions to ensure a rapid knowledge transfer from
science to operations and decision support (What
do they need, what can we give?)

3
Discussion groups Observations for research
and operations where and why there or are we
content as it is? Synthesis model-obs and
improve models what obs do modelers need? How
are the models going to be improved? Relate to
operations which part of the TA is important for
seasonal prediction, what is the main problem
with seasonal prediction, what obs are needed?

Practical Within the building, use
bezoekerspas on badge. Hand them in when going
home. Lunches and coffee will be served in Buys
Ballot zaal. Tuesday 8 June, KNMI offers a
reception at the garden of the University Museum,
starts at 6 pm get together in time at the door,
so we can get in together (see map) Helpdesk at
