International space-based solar
missions Particular strengths continue to be
X-ray and UV imaging, spectroscopy of the solar
atmosphere, and solar mass ejection studies.
Missions in which the UK has a leading role
include SoHO, Yohkoh, and SMM, with Hinode and
STEREO having just started operations late in
2006.
The United Kingdom has been involved in IHY since
its conception and has played key roles in the
development of the IHY concept and its
application. The UK has been particularly active
in the design and coordination of Coordinated
Investigation Programmes, in the early Web site
development and in public outreach.
