Lets Get Started-Dont Be Intimidated!
  • PC Log-in using your own Windows acct
  • 2 monitor configuration is common
  • VistARad icon- picture of small chest x-ray
  • Double click on the icon
  • Log in using your VistA acct.
  • Manager Window and Main Viewer
  • Minimize other windows

Workstation Settings
  • Configuration changes that you make on one
    VistARad workstation will follow you wherever you
    go.....you will not have to make the same changes
    at each similarly configured workstation (i.e.
    ICU vs. OR vs. clinic workstation)
  • Monitor Configuration-
  • One Monitor vs. Two Tool bar / Monitor button
  • Manager Window Settings
  • Manager Tab - Dictation Tab (enable/disable)
  • Exam Request
  • Font Tab (change the font size of report text or
    Manager Window)
  • Element Tab (can change measurement text
    magnify 100)
  • Hanging Protocol Tab - Enable Priors if desired

Basic Image Manipulation - Tools
  • Most of the basic tools can be initiated with a
    button on the tool bar

Or, use right mouse click for the drop down
menu Note Rt. mouse click also turns off
the active tool

Basic Image Manipulation - Tools
  • Window/Level
  • Changes the contrast brightness of the image.
  • How to change W/L
  • Click Button, then drag on image with Left mouse
    button.
  • Both horizontal and vertical movement will change
    the W/L (i.e. appearance) of the image.
  • Or, use a shortcut
  • Hold the right mouse button down and drag on
    image.
  • Need to get back to the original image...try
    using the
  • Auto W/L button, or Reset Image
    drop-down menu
  • Scale
  • Changes the size of the image

  • Changes the image position from right to
    left and/or
  • top to bottom
  • Center horizontal line placement
  • Above Vertical Below Horizontal
  • Rotate-
  • Changes the image position 90 degree
    rotation
  • Center vertical line placement
  • Right Clockwise Left
    Counter-clockwise

  • Sharpen-
  • Changes the image appearance sharpen brings out
    bone detail such as ribs non-radiopaque tubes,
    line placement, CT lung vessels
  • drag left sharpens right smoothes
  • Note F number
  • Sharp Zero normal - Smooth
  • F numbers 1-3 are most useful

  • Open-
  • Double click on exam
  • Change Size
  • Change W/L
  • Apply Sharpness
  • Auto W/L
  • Find the Report and/or Exam Request
  • Close using the Close button on the Manager
    window.

  • Open a CT Exam (pt I0037)
  • Scroll thru images
  • Open a comparison exam (i.e. cxr)
  • Find the comparison exam via Browser
  • Double click on image to change size
  • Measure
  • Demonstrate how to set-up Pre sets

Start to Finish Its Simple
  • Log in to PC
  • Double click on the small chest x-ray icon
  • Log into VistARad with your VistA account
  • On Manager, click Patient Lookup, enter
    patient last initial and last 4
  • Double click on the exam you want to open-wait a
    moment for exam to load (see Open/Reserved Exams
    window).
  • Clicking on the image minimizes any windows that
    may be blocking it
  • Use the wheel on your mouse to scroll through the
    images
  • To close the study, click the file cabinet
    (close/update exams) icon at the top of the
    Viewer screen
  • Log out of VistARad - go to file (top left),
    Exit VistARad
