  • ASEAN Plus Three Emerging Infectious Diseases
    (EID) Programme
  • Arose from ASEANs SARS experience in 2003, the
    Programme is primarily meant to increase the
    effectiveness of regional surveillance, early
    warning and response to infections
  • 4 Components Institutional Strengthening (ASEAN
    Secretariat) Regional Networking (Indonesia)
    Laboratory Diagnosis, Surveillance and Response
    (Malaysia) and Epidemiological Surveillance
    Capacity (Thailand)
  • Implemented by the ASEAN Expert Group on
    Communicable Diseases (AEGCD) and their Plus
    Three Counterparts with the support of Australia
    (AusAID)

    Protective Equipment (PPE) Stockpile Project
  • Co-ordinated by the ASEAN Secretariat
  • Stockpile 500,000 courses of Tamiflu and PPE for
    700,000 people (since mid-August 2006)
  • Location Singapore (transfer target of within 24
    hours)
  • PANSTOP 2007 pre-pandemic table top exercise
    from 2-3 April 2007
  • Additional 500,000 Anti-viral drugs (Tamiflu and
    Relenza) are being procured for deployment to
    ASEAN Member Countries
  • PPE for 350,000 people (of the 700,000
    stockpiled) is also set for deployment to ASEAN
    Member Countries

  • Avian Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Project
  • Co-ordinated by the ASEAN Secretariat and
    supported by the USAID, with the aim of improving
    pandemic preparedness plans by involving the
    non-health sector
  • ASEAN Mapping Exercise for Pandemic Preparedness
    and Response, 26-27 July 2007 in Vientiane, Lao
    PDR identified gaps and challenges in national
    pandemic preparedness plans
  • ASEAN Regional Workshop on Multi-sectoral
    Co-ordination in Pandemic Preparedness and
    Response, 29-30 November 2007 in Halong Bay,
    Vietnam to arrive at a common understanding of
    the multi-sectoral approach to pandemic
    preparedness and response at the national and
    regional level and identify the roles and
    responsibilities of the relevant stakeholders

    Control and Eradication of HPAI (2005)

    Global Framework for the Progressive Control of
    Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs)
