What is Waste Reduction

• Source reduction refers to any change in the
  design, manufacture, purchase, or use of
  materials or products (including packaging) to
  reduce their amount or toxicity before they
  become municipal solid waste. Source reduction is
  the highest goal in the waste management
  hierarchy.

State Agency Waste Reduction Measures

• Set printers and copiers to 2 sided
• Have reports submitted electronically
• Develop agency wide electronic bulletin boards
• Use fax label, not page
• Limit phone book distribution
• Review mailing lists
• Eliminate unnecessary forms

What is Reuse?

• Reuse is to use an item more than once. This
  includes conventional reuse where the item is
  used again for the same function, and new-life
  reuse where it is used in a new application.
