Overview
  • There are approximately 30,000 members in more
    than 1,180 clubs in 68 countries working in their
    communities toward our common goal of improving
    the status of women.
  • All of our organizational work is designed to
    facilitate and enhance the work of each
    individual club.

Zonta International
  • History
  • Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, NY
  • Zonta is a Sioux Indian word meaning honest
    and trustworthy
  • Service Projects

  • Prevention of Female Genital Circumcision in
    Burkina Faso
  • Zisvaw
  • YWIPA, Michael J. Freeman Scholarships Literacy
  • Jane M. Klausman Business Scholarships

  • Our Headquarters Building in Chicago, IL is fully
    owned by the Foundation, and is leased to Zonta
    International.
  • We have a full time salaried Executive Director.
  • There are full time salaried staff members.
  • The Zonta International and Foundation Board
    meetings are held here.
  • The Zontian Magazine is produced here.
  • All membership records are maintained.
  • Zonta manuals, promotional materials and
    merchandise are produced and/or sold from here.
  • International Officers and Directors serve for
    two years. They are all members of Zonta Clubs,
    and serve without pay
  • President, president-elect, vice president, and
    treasurer/secretary
  • Seven directors
  • Zonta International Foundation was formed several
    years ago as a 501 (C)(3) entity for U. S.. Tax
    Purposes. Its Board is comprised of Zonta
    members, and each serves without pay.
  • All service funds are held and managed by the
    Foundation
  • Our president and president-elect are ex-officio
    members.

  • International Meetings
  • Are called Conventions
  • Are held biennially in the even years during the
    summer.
  • Are open to all members
  • Delegates from each Club determine policy, elect
    officers and generally make all business
    decisions by their votes.
  • Dues Fees
  • Fiscal year - June 1 -- Dues should be paid by
    the Club to ZI
  • After you become a member, annual dues are 52.
    2 Of this covers you under our liability policy.
  • Our dues pay
  • The staff
  • Operational expenses
  • Expenses of the Zonta and Foundation Boards and
    Committees.

District 7
  • There are 30 Zonta districts worldwide.
  • Districts serve as administrative links between
    clubs and Zonta International.
  • District 7 is our district
  • Geographically it covers -- Iowa, Minnesota,
    North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, and Kansas
  • Is divided into 4 Areas (1/2, 3, 4/5, 6) - we are
    in Area 5
  • Officers Directors -- Serve 2 years
  • Governor, Lt. Governor, Treasurer are elected at
    large.
  • Four elected Area Directors -- one from each Area
  • Non voting Secretary and Parliamentarian --
    appointed by the Governor

  • Are called Conferences

  • Are open to all members
  • Delegates from Clubs transact the business of the
    District
  • Delegates elect officers and adopt a budget
    biennially.
  • Area Meetings
  • Are called Workshops
  • Are held each year in the spring
  • Are the responsibility of your Area Director
  • Are open to all members TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ZONTA
  • Dues
  • Are 30 a year and should be paid by the Club to
    the district treasurer by June 1

How You Fit Into the Picture
  • Whether its demanding at the board or general
    meetings to let your voice be heard whether you
    are someone who sees a need in our club and jumps
    in to create a committee or whether you are
    quiet in the background and consistently
    participate, You are the voice that blends in to
    make one harmonious song we call Zonta.

Where to Get More Information
  • Zonta has many manuals, videos, resources, and
    publications that may be duplicated. Many are
    available in our club or through the district.
  • Read the Bylaws Rules of Procedure
  • Read The Zontian magazine which you will receive
    in the mail
  • Attend Area Workshops, District Conferences and
    International Conventions
