  • He is a Canadian Citizen who came from Australia,
    born and raised
  • He is 88 years old
  • Born June 13, 1913
  • Full name is Kingdon Cleeve __________.
  • Married on December 4, 1946, in Canada
  • Now he lives in WPG,MB
  • Was a tail gunner which is also called The Rear
    Gunner in the plane called a Lancaster also known
    as The Old Lanc
  • Medals He Has
  • 1939-45 Star
  • Air Crew Europe Star
  • Africa Star
  • France and Germany Star
  • Defence Medal
  • War Medal 1939-45

  • Married a Canadian girl
  • Moved to Canada
  • Had twin children, a boy and a girl
  • The girls name is Roxanne Vyvian and the boy is
    named William Brian Kingdon
  • They were born and raised in Canada
  • The boy is my father

The Journey To Canada,Proposing
  • When he met Lorna S. he knew she was the one he
    wanted to marry
  • After he went back to Australia he wrote her a
    letter asking her to be his wife
  • Were to be married in Australia
  • She replied no because she was an only child
  • She asked him to come to Canada to be married
    there
  • He did not have quite enough money to come to
    Canada The Government was persuaded by Bud S. to
    let him be sponsored
  • No problem with that so he has been in Canada
    ever since

My GrandfathersWorld War II Life
  • Enlisted in the army in 1939
  • Not called back because of a Hernia
  • When you were not called back because of a
    medical condition you received a medal signifying
    that
  • He was so mad and so ashamed he threw it away
  • After his operation he was allowed to join
  • In a battalion where his brother was captain
  • After he was discharged from the army he felt he
    needed to do more so he signed up for the
    Australian Air Force
  • Trained in WPG, MB for the position of a
    tailgunner in the plane called the Lancaster
  • Royal Australian Air Force supported the
    training entirely
  • On the170th squad
  • On Remembrance Day he thinks a lot about the
    people he was with during the war
  • Feels being a soldier was a great
    experience,because it helped him become a man by
    seeing how other people lived

Finally, A True Canadian
  • At time thought if 5 years in Canada you
    automatically became a Canadian Citizen
  • Unfortunately was wrong
  • Had to formally apply once he decided to get a
    pension
  • There was not a dual citizenship

  • An Unexpected Reunion Of Brothers
  • Kingdon sees a brother during an army drill that
    could cause him some trouble!!
  • A Disaster!!
  • Flying back from Europe on a plane called Quenny
    one of the engines shot out . What are they going
    to do?

  • When he rode a motorcycle to deliver convoys
    after being to Palestine he ends up dragging his
    hip. Find out what happens!

Why I Chose This Topic
  • I chose this topic because in school we were
    learning about WWII when I realized my
    grandfather contributed so much by being a
    soldier and also by being in the air force.
  • I also thought that it would help me start a
    family tree of my own when Im older and to help
    fathers extend.

  • Canada was chosen as the main location for people
    to train for WWII
  • Consisted of over 100 training schools that were
    required for all the student fliers
  • Shaftsbury Canadian Mennonite College was once
    the WWII Allied Air Force Training Center
  • Building was originally School for the Deaf
  • Built in May , 1921
  • Opened in September 1922
  • 1941 was taken over by The Royal Canadian Air
    Force and became wireless training school
  • 1946, Air force departed
  • Was used for training and in 1965 was renamed the
    School For the Deaf

    the year 1963, or 1964
