• Last summer Elizabeth Hackenson, CIO of
  Alcatel-Lucent asked us to investigate the
  following question
• Given the state of new technologies like texting,
  twitter, blackberries, Facebook, wikis, and
  blogs
• What technology and means communication will
  attract the best and brightest to Alcatel and
  help us retain that talent and make them
  productive?
• Performed under contract with Graduate Research
  Assistant Amit Jagirdar

Methodology

• We created a survey for our NYU Poly students and
  recent graduates to fill out
• Target population for new hires
• Undergraduates in their senior year
• Graduate students (majority studying technology)
• Recent (less than 5 years) alumni in the workforce

Conclusions

• From this research study we can conclude the
  following
• Technology expectations
• New hires expect to have a high configuration
  work station, personal communication device and
  anytime anywhere internet connectivity
• Social expectations
• Even though the new generation is very technology
  savvy, face to face communication at workplace
  the most preferred mode of communication. Email
  and Phone are the second most preferred choices.
