  • Eligible Employers
  • must operate and offer a job in northern Ontario
  • must be in the private, non-profit, or broader
    public sector (municipalities, schools,
    universities, colleges, hospitals)
  • must not be related to the student(s) they are
    hiring (for example, son, daughter, spouse
    brother, sister)
  • must be in compliance with Workplace Safety and
    Insurance coverage, or alternate workplace safety
    insurance, and third party liability insurance
    coverage
  • must not hire the student(s) before applying for
    the program (exception youth whose part-time
    job will be increased to full-time).
  • must not displace existing staff with students
    hired through this program
  • must not be receiving government funds from any
    other program for the same student or job
    placement
  • must hire the participant(s) to work in northern
    Ontario

  • Announced January 24, 2005, NOHFC Internship and
    Co-op program are intended to launch and build
    careers for youth in Northern Ontario
  • Programs are available to both public and private
    sector employers in the areas of

  • Value added manufacturing
  • Telecommunications
  • Bio-technology
  • Emerging technologies
  • Environmental sciences
  • Other activities to will result in an economic
    advantage for Northern Ontario
  • Retail business are not eligible

Program-Continued
  • Internship Program
  • Provide first time employment in a related field
    to recent college or university graduates in
    Northern Ont.
  • Funding up to 27,500, or a maximum of 50 of
    salary for private sector employers
  • Funding up to 27,500 or a maximum of 90 of
    salary for public sector employers
  • Conditional contribution funding
  • Jobs should be new and result in net economic
    benefit for Northern Ontario and will normally
    not exceed one year
  • Candidates should be 29 years of age or under or
    recent graduates of an accredited college or
    University.

Ontario Graduate Transitions Tax Credit
  • Eligible Employers
  • Must have a permanent establishment in Ontario
  • Must be subject to Ontario income tax
  • Must incur eligible expenditures for a qualifying
    post-secondary graduate
  • Eligible Participants
  • Must have graduated, within the past three years
  • Must have been unemployed for at least 16 weeks
    of the last 32 weeks immediately preceding the
    first day of qualifying employment
  • Must have not been employed for more than 15
    hours per week during 16 of the 32 weeks
    immediately preceding the first day of
    employment and
  • Must not be related to the eligible employer at
    the time the employment commenced.
