CFIA Regulations Requirements
Under these Acts non-chemicals are required to be
listed by CFIA

• Meat Inspection Act and Regulations
• Fish Inspection Act and Regulations

CFIA FOOD SAFETY PREREQUISITE PROGRAMS
for HACCP, FSEP, QMP

• Requires non-food chemicals to be evaluated and
  found acceptable prior to their use in food plants

Evaluation of Non-Food Chemicals

• letter of acceptance is issued to the applicant,
  based on the acceptability of the chemical
  composition and label of the product.
• The accepted product and the firms name is then
  entered on our web site.

NSF CFIASubmission Requirements forNon-Food
Chemical Products

• NSFCFIA chemicals composition requirements are
  similar The complete chemical composition of the
  product, listing all ingredients by percentage or
  quantitatively ( all components shall be
  identified chemically to include trade name and
  manufacturer)
• NSF evaluations follows USFDA protocols
• CFIA evaluations are adhoc reviews, seeking no
  objection status from Health Canada

CFIA Acceptance of NSF Certification

• Require complete chemical composition of the
  product
• Require a label to address Canadian requirements
• CFIA will accept and listed those formulated
  products which are using ingredients which have
  been accessed by both NSF Health Canada or
  which have USFDA CFR. GRAS Status
