The Office of Site Closures Scope

• The Office of Site Closure (OSC) is responsible
  for 109 of EMs 113 sites
• OSC addresses sites that can be closed, or where
  EMs responsibilities can be completed, in the
  near term
• Rocky Flats - Fernald - Mound
• OSC is responsible for 40 (2.3B) of EMs
  budget

What Does Site Closure Mean?

• It means the following objectives are met and
  verified for EM activities
• All regulatory requirements have been met
• Waste management activities have ceased and
  material is dispositioned
• Real and personal property is removed, disposed,
  or transferred
• Contracts are terminated or transferred
• Workforce is transitioned
• Long-term stewardship plans have been developed
  and approved

Key OSC Considerations in Stewardship

• OSC needs better technologies that will inspire
  stakeholder confidence and enable us to achieve
  site closure
• OSC will work with ST and Stewardship Programs
  to communicate our objectives and results to
  stakeholders in clear, user-friendly language, so
  there are no surprises in achieving site closure

• OSC cannot succeed without stewardship planning
  and implementation
• We look forward to continuing to work with the
  Stewardship Office to ensure long-term protection
  for people and the environment at EM sites
