Daniel Farrelly Kevin Paton
Daniel Farrelly is an evolutionary psychologist and lecturer in the Psychology Department in the Faculty of Applied Science at University of Sunderland. Daniel obtained a PhD in psychology from Newcastle University in 2005, looking at human social interactions. Following this he held a post-doctoral research position in the Department in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, working specifically on the nature of emotional intelligence. His main interests are the measurement and evolution of emotional intelligence, human cooperative behaviour, reasoning abilities and mating strategies, and has published his research in national and international peer-reviewed publications Lynne Humphries is a Senior Lecturer in Computing in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. After some years of teaching for the Open University she entered HE full-time researching and then lecturing at the University of Sunderland. She began lecturing in Environmental Technology, teaching decision-making and communication techniques to MSc level before retraining into computing. She is currently Programme Leader for the innovative part-time MSc in Professional IT Management, a course that combines updating in technical subjects alongside soft computing skills including Emotional Intelligence (EI). She is currently researching the precursors to Emotional Intelligence in children and whether EI can be taught. She has delivered a paper on teaching EI in HE and ran a workshop on EI skills at an international conference in 2007. Kevin Paton is an Occupational Psychologist and Team Leader of the Psychology Department in the Faculty of Applied Science at University of Sunderland. Kevin was previously Team Leader of the HRM team at Sunderland Business School and has many years experience of consultancy experience in management development, organisation development and change management. He has worked with many large organisations in the UK and abroad including Nissan, the NHS, the World Health Organisation and the Australian Health Service. His main interests in the area of Emotional Intelligence is application of EI to management effectiveness especially in organisation change situations.
