Location
  • The location of Venice was an advantage to the
    people.
  • Venice was the main port during the Renaissance
    because it was situated on the Adriatic Sea.
  • Boats with Spices and other products of the East
    were passed through the port of Venice.
  • Also, because the island city of Venice was
    surrounded by lagoons, it was protected from the
    struggles of other Italian cities.

Types of Artists in Venice
  • Venice was full of ceramists, glassworkers,
    woodworkers, lace makers, sculptors, and of
    course painters. All of these artists made good
    livings.

Unique Artistic Style
  • Venetian art was very unique and had different
    that art from other places.
  • Because of its location, Venetian art was not
    influence by outsiders.
  • Venetian painters had a distinct method of
    brushwork it is smooth and makes a velvety
    surface texture.
  • Because of the location, there was a dampness
    factor, and the painters needed something
    durable, so they used the technique of oil
    painting.

  • Trade was large in Venice as well as other
    Italian cities such as Florence, Rome, Milan, and
    Naples.
  • Many of the citizens of these cites were wealthy
    and educated merchants.
  • Venice was particularly a good place of trade
    because it was on an island.

Venice in its most Influential Time
  • The late 15th century and into the 16th century
    was when Venice was the most influential.
  • The Venetian art school emerged in the late 15th
    century and turned out to be very important and
    significant.
  • The 15th and 16th centuries were also the time of
    many notable Venetian painters and other artists.

Giorgione
  • Giorgione was a Venetian painter during the
    Renaissance whose real name was Giorgio
    Barbarelli da Castelfranco.
  • He was known for the poetic quality of his work.
  • He introduced a new subject of painting ones
    which told no story at all but expressed color
    and feeling.

  • He is famous for his religious paintings.
  • He is know for his use of light and his rich
    colors.

Titians Painting
  • This is a painting of Titians called Bacchus and
    Ariadne. The painting is about Bacchus (the god
    of wine), meeting a young girl named Ariadne, the
    daughter of the king of Crete. They fall in love
    at first sight and soon get married.
