Setting
  • The time and location in which a story takes
    place. Setting includes place, time, weather,
    and social conditions.

  • Characters are those who take part in the story.
    The characters can be people, animals, or
    fictional.

Plot
  • The plot is the sequence of events in a story.
    The plot has a beginning, middle, and end. It has
    five parts.

Conflict
  • The conflict is a problem or struggle between two
    opposing forces in the story. Without a conflict,
    there is no plot. There are four types of
    conflict (see link).

  • The point of view is the angle from which the
    story is told. Two of the most commonly used are
    first and third person.

Theme
  • Theme is the main message that the author wishes
    to share with the reader. The theme is usually a
    life lesson and offers sound advice.
