Objectives

• to organise engineering information (including
  data and knowledge about product and their
  processes) using hyper media technology
• to provide a uniform user access and navigation
  system to engineering information
• to provide methods for defining and operating
  workflows without paper printouts
• to provide on-line distribution services for fast
  and correct information to business users (i.e.
  engineering and manufacturing departments)
• to provide functionality for easy and systematic
  acquisition and feedback of experiences

• More application protocols necessary to bridge
  from big industries to other sectors with more
  SMEs
• Non-geometrical product data, a clear need for
  every industry (product structure, options,
  variants, ) Which is the good part to be applied?

PDM strategic issues

• Affordable products for SMEs
• Definition of APs for other industrial sectors
  (adaptation of existing?)
• Close link with CAD systems is mandatory
