• September, 2008 - Established the Office of
  Institutional Research, Planning Effectiveness
  under IT Leadership
• October, 2008 VPAA selected an Assessment
  Director to work directly with faculty, endorsed
  by the Faculty Senate President, to make student
  learning outcomes assessment a priority
• December, 2008 Developed a pilot IE program
  that initiated an automated institutional
  effectiveness process

• 25 Faculty (5 Full-time 20 Part-time) currently

Educator Preparation Institute (EPI)

• EPI An alternative teacher certification program
  for Baccalaureate degree holders. 
• Our EPI opened its doors in January 2006, with an
  initial cohort of 32 students and has grown to
  over 300 active students
• 87 students have completed the program and
  received their professional teaching certificate
• Special attention is given to the critical need
  areas of Mathematics, Science and Exceptional
  Student Education
• Our Office of Education Placement
  Services successfully places over 1,000 BC
  education majors annually in Broward County

• The Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF)
  projected that our nation will need more than
  280,000 new mathematics and science teachers by
  2015.
• The Florida Department of Education projected
  that 80 of the critical need in teacher shortage
  areas for 2008-2009 will likely occur in four
  fields ESE, Mathematics, Reading and Science .
• Surveyed 259 Broward Education majors with an 82
  interest rate
• BC took the opportunity to meet the needs of the
  community and partnered with the largest employer
  in the County, Broward County Public Schools.

Teacher Education Mission

• The Teacher Education Program shall promote
  excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and
  professional development. Recognizing the
  importance of preparing culturally competent
  educators for diverse and inclusive communities
  of learners in a rapidly changing global society,
  Broward Colleges Teacher Education Program is
  committed to the core values of diversity and
  inclusion. It seeks to both develop and empower
  the classroom teacher through technologically-adva
  nced, research-based and best practice pedagogy.
