• When authors try to convince the reader to
  support a certain opinion, buy a particular
  product, or become a member of a group

• What are some Persuasive Techniques?

• Argument clearly states a position on an issue
  and supports it with good evidence and logical
  reasoning. It also states opposing views and
  explains their weaknesses.

• Propaganda Using misleading data or false
  information instead of reliable evidence. Some of
  these techniques are
• bandwagon appeal tries to get you to do
  something because everybody else is
• name-calling attacking a persons character or
  personality
• snob appeal says you are a better person if you
  do things their way
• testimonials gets celebrities or satisfied
  customers to endorse an idea or product
