  • Born 23 February 1685 in Germany.
  • Son of a barber-surgeon

Handels best known work
  • Wrote Messiah late 1730s early 1740
  • Messiah had its premiere in Dublin in 1741-2
  • During his last decade he gave regular
    performances of Messiah

  • 1749 wrote music to accompany the Royal
    Fireworks.
  • Fireworks celebrated the Peace of Aix-La
    Chapelle.
  • Handel died in 1759
  • Buried in Westminster Abby
