HISTORY OF TURN CASTLE

• 1409 - The first mentioning of Turn castle
• During 15th to 16th century - the castle was
  severly damaged
• 1473 damaged because of Turkish incursion
• 1611 damaged again by a destructive earthquake
• 17th century - the castle took shape as we know
  today

• 1760 - a baroque chappel of Mother of God was
  built (by
• Ludvik Ksaver )
• The interior of chappel is painted with frescos
• Picture of Pietus at the altar - painted by the
  baroque
• painter Valentin Metzinger

• 20th century - the Urbancic dinasty kept the Turn
  
• dominion
• 1796 Martin Urbancic died at castle Brdo his
  wife
• move to castle Turn
• 1800 - sons of Martin Urbancic became the new
  owners
• 1823 son Janez Nepomuk Urbancic became the
  sole
• owner of the Turn dominion

• Janez Nepomuk Urbancic married Joefina Terpinc ?
  three children ? the oldest being Josipina
• 1909 - until this year the Turn castle remained
  under the Urbancic ownership
• Until the second world war owner was Oton pl.
  Detela
• After the war - occupied by military forces
• 1948 - the first patients were accommodated

• The first Slovenian writter and composer
• born on July 9th 1833 at Turn castle
• at her age 8 died her father Janez
• her mother Joefina took over the control over
  the
• dominion
• two brothers Janko and Fidelis
• Lovro Pintar her teacher / introduced her to
  her future
• husband
• 1850 - Josipina Urbancic and her future husband
  Lovro
• Toman met each other
• 3 year long correspondance
• The Slovenian National and Universal Library in
• Ljubljana - majority of their letters is
  being kept there

• 1852 after his doctorate Lovro moved from
  Gradec to Kranj
• Avgust 24th 1853 - date of the wedding /
  postponed until September 22nd
• weeding took place at the castle chappel
• they moved to Gradec where she died on June 1st
  1854
• first Slovenian female writter and composer
• known under a pseudonym Turnograjska
• she began writting at the age of 17
• short novels with moral tendency, historical
  novels, prose
• she amired nature deeply
• 37 novels, 4 songs, a few compositions, and also
  an abundance of her ideas

A TIME WALK - THROUGH

• 1948
• The begining of social activities at Turn Castle
• The first tenants war orphans, elderly and
  infirm people
• It housed 40 beds, poor standard rooms, while the
  only water pipe being in the castle courtyard
• The fifties
• October 22nd 1954 - The Home For The Infirm was
  established
• 1959 - renamed to Home of The Infirm and Retired
  Preddvor

• The sixties
• 1962 - first castle adaptation
• The home got a new name The Albin Drolc Home Of
  The Residents Preddvor
• The seventies
• 1974-1975 - significant renovation
• 1977 - constriction of a new Home
• The eighties
• 1983 - the castle was renovated
• 1988 - the capacity of The Home rised to 173 beds
  
• 1989 - A Josipina Urbancic Turnograjska memorial
  room was carefully arranged

• The nineties
• 1995 renovations
• 1996 - the old castle was renovated and connected
  with the new Home
• 1996 - the home was renamed into The Home Of The
  Elderly Community Preddvor
• The new millenium
• 2003 - a connection to a remote biomass heating
  system in Preddvor
• 2006 - a day care section on the ground floor of
  the castle
• 2007 - a home food delivery service
• developing new programms that help elevate the
  quality of housing and life of our residents,
  with special care of the education of our
  employees
