  • Enter selections online
  • Print selection sheet
  • Computer sheet signed by parent and student
  • Ensure the other selection sheet is completed and
    signed
  • Give both sheets to the Tutor

The VCE at Toorak College
  • Breadth and depth
  • Not simply a matter of accumulating units but of
    experiencing a comprehensive and rich general
    education.
  • The goal is to finish school as a fully rounded,
    well skilled individual

What are the requirements?
  • Technically, a two year certificate. However,
    there is no restriction on time taken to complete
    VCE
  • VCE subjects are divided into four Units. Each
    unit one semester (NB At Toorak College
    Semester Two starts last week of Term Two)
  • At Toorak College, students generally study up to
    24 Units altogether over 2 3 years.

To Achieve your VCE you must
  • Satisfactorily complete at least 16 units
  • You must complete at least 3 Units of English/ESL
    or Literature
  • You must complete 3 studies other than
    English/ESL/Literature as a Unit 3 4 sequence

Level of Achievement
  • Levels of achievement are determined by the
    results of school based coursework in Units 3 and
    4
  • The study scores are based on the coursework and
    examinations and converted into an Equivalent
    National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER)

The ENTER
  • Units 1 2 do not count
  • Must include Unit 3 and 4 of an English scaled
    study score
  • Students best three other scaled study scores
  • 10 of the students next two best scaled study
    scores
  • A University Enhancement study as a sixth subject

Whats Happening at The University of Melbourne?
  • UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE UPDATE
  • New Generation Programs
  • In 2008 the university introduces a suite of new
    generation undergraduate programs which will be
    recognised pathways into professional graduate
    programs and into research higher degrees.
  • The six new degrees are
  • Arts,
  • Biomedicine,
  • Commerce,
  • Environments,
  • Music and
  • Science

Whats Happening at The University of Melbourne?
  • The New Generation degrees will require
    students to take 25 of their degree from outside
    their chosen program
  • The final intake into the 6 year MBBS/BMedSC will
    be in 2008
  • The final intake into the
  • B. Dental Science,
  • B. Physiotherapy and
  • B. Optometry will be in 2009
  • Many graduate programs will be available in 2008
    eg Master of Architecture, Master of Property,
    Master of Social Work

Whats Happening at The University of Melbourne?
  • The new Doctoral program in Medicine Surgery
    and in Dental Surgery will be 4 years
  • the Doctoral program in physiotherapy will be 3
    years (all commence in 2011).
  • Melbourne Uni will complete the shift to the
    Melbourne Model in 2011
  • Although the courses and their titles may change,
    all the disciplines that are currently available
    at the University of Melbourne will continue to
    be available to study

What is VET in the VCE?
  • Vocational Education and Training
  • Gain 2 certificates VCE and a nationally
    recognised industry certificate
  • Promotes employability skills
  • Offers opportunities beyond the school boundary
  • Contribute either a Study Score or 10 increment
    towards the ENTER
  • May give credit towards post-secondary programs
  • Suits the Applied Learner

  • Students who would enjoy studying at TAFE, other
    schools or in a workplace.
  • Students who have a specific career goal
  • or
  • Students who have a genuine interest, but not
    necessarily a long term career goal !!!

Remember VET involves
  • an additional cost
  • out of school hours training
  • possibly work placement in the holidays
  • working with students from other schools
  • studying at different locations
