design is based upon the harmonious balance of
proper letterform, size, and spacing.

embellishments. - A large title can overpower and draw too much
attention. - Look for balance and good proportions when
creating the title. - Title Letterform
- Titles function well when they communicate the
mood of a page. - The design of the typeface can evoke feelings.
- There are many selections when choosing a
typeface. - Examine letterform options carefully and make
selections based on the mood of the page. - Title Spacing
- Properly place the title to have the most impact.
- Separate words or letters of your title and
weave them through a design to create movement.
6TITLE FORMULAS
- Use your title to move the readers eye around
the entire layout. - The title is placed in a position of prominence,
so it makes sense to tie it to the other elements
of the design. - What better way to get the reader to look at your
most important element than to place the title
within the focal point? - If your title looks like it does not belong on
the page, add some enhancements. - If your words are extremely important, put the
words and title together. - Title formulas can help in designing an amazing
page!

- Find unique ways to deliver your title.
- Look at professional designs carefully to see how
graphic artists work with letters in design
they often use many sizes and typefaces within
one message. - The change in shape creates movement and interest
for the reader. - Look at the words that make up your title, and
think about how you can make one word smaller or
larger than the others. - Mix letter sizes and styles, use prepared
phrases, rubber stamps, your handwriting, or just
change the computer font every time you type a
new word.
9CREATE CONTRAST WITH TITLES
- Design thrives on contrast
- Create contrast in size, shape, or color.
- Look at the letters of your title the way a
publisher would and do something different to the
first letter. - Use positive and negative components in your
lettering applications. - Give letters special attention with single,
double or triple matting. - Use a square in your titles, the clean lines and
the sharp angles create great contrast for a
title. Round a corner or two to create depth in
the contrast of a title.
10CREATE RHYTHM WITH TITLES
- Keep in mind that titles do not have to dominate
the design. - Sometimes, you need to tuck the title into the
design. - Let your photographs tell the story and the title
support the photographs. - Challenge yourself to use rhythm and repeat
colors, shapes or textures. - Let your creativity flow so that each aspect of
your page pulls together to tell its part of the
whole story.
11CREATE UNITY WITH TITLES
- Enhance the unity by integrating elements of your
design into your titles. - Use prepared words or titles, such as stickers,
rub-ons or dimensional alphabet stickers. - Do the unexpected and replace a letter with a
design element this will not only create rhythm,
but also create unity between the title and the
page elements. - Creating unity will help to
- Balance the page
- Create a design triangle
- Unify the title with the page
- Prepared titles like Jolees Boutique Title
Waves and Word Play designs come in a
predetermined shape dont be afraid to cut them
apart and change their look it is your design

to follow a curve, around corners, or along the
edge of the page or photograph. - Movement in design is interesting and fun to look
at try a playful approach to your titles and

happy with the results.

- When placing stickers, they need to be grounded
or they will float. - Grounding a sticker means giving the sticker a
specific place or purpose in the layout design. - Attaching stickers to mats, titles, and within
borders with purpose in mind will help you be
pleased with the results.
15CREATE DEPTH WITH STICKERS
- Look at a module of stickers and consider how
those images can interact with one another. - Many modules are designed with this purpose in
mind. - Use recycled sticker paper to build your layers
enabling an easier transfer to the final project.

19PUNCH FUNDAMENTALS
- Punch Maintenance
- Punches are a tool and will benefit from
maintenance to keep them operating at top
performance. - Over time, metal burs may form along the metal
part of the punch in order to sharpen those
burrs away you need to punch aluminum foil. - Next, you need to lubricate the punch punch
with waxed paper to get a smooth action. - You can also drop a few drops of lubricant into
the mechanism of the punch this will keep the
inner workings moving smoothly.
20PUNCH FUNDAMENTALS
- Adhering Punched Pieces
- When working with punches, you will find that you
are frequently dealing with very small punched
pieces. - If you attempt to put glue on the tiny pieces,
you will end up with very sticky fingers! - A better method is to apply glue to the
foundation piece, which is your largest surface. - With craft tweezers, pick up the tiny punched
pieces and lay them into the glue. This keeps
your hands clean and makes punch assembly a
little easier.
21PUNCH FUNDAMENTALS
- Altering Punched Pieces
- Feel free to pick up your Honey Bee Scissors or
craft knife and make a change! - Think of your punches as more than just a
specific shape, their use and application will go
much farther. - Punch Storage and Inventory
- Create a notebook or folder that you adhere your
punched pieces into. - This will help you keep track of your punch
inventory.

punches in one. Each double punch produces a
shape with die-cut details. - In many cases, you can use the positive and
negative punched out pieces to make some really
cool designs.
25CREATE CONTRAST WITH PUNCHES
- Punches create positive negative images when
they punch thru paper - The positive image is the resulting punched
piece. - The negative image is the empty space left in the
paper. - Both the positive and negative images can be used
in punch art. - The multiple uses of a punch give your creative
flexibility with just one tool

dimension on page accent pieces and punched

them with additional punched pieces. - Make your punched art really pop by adhering the
pieces to the page with 3D-Dots foam adhesive.
27CREATE SHAPE WITH PUNCHES
- When creating punch art, challenge yourself to
think outside of the box. - Dont just look at the punch as the intended
shape. - Rather consider each punch shape as a building
block to developing a more intricate page
element. - Start your punch collection with basic geometric
shapes, circles, squares, diamonds, hearts and
stars.

border of punched pieces can enhance and complete
a scrapbook page. - Guide the readers eye right from the title,
through the page elements and off the page. - This is a very simple, but powerful use of shape
and color that has a strong impact and unifies
all of the page elements into a beautiful design.
30CREATE CORNERS WITH PUNCHES

ability to functionally change the corner of a
piece of paper. - It is amazing how such a simple punch can make a
