Title: What is AP PAP

P/AP AP
What is AP P/AP?
?
?
?
WHY AP ?
IS this for all students ?
2
What is AP?
  • The Advanced Placement Program (AP) was developed
by The College Board, the same people who create
the PSAT and SAT college entrance exams.
  • The AP classes help prepare students to take the
subject AP exams in May. If the student makes a
score of 3, 4 or 5 on the exam, they may be able
to receive credit for that course in college.
(There are some exceptions.) This saves the
    student time and money.
  • Students are not required to take the AP exam(s)
if they enroll in an AP class. That will be
    their decision.
  • The curriculum/scope of P/AP and AP classes is
more in-depth and faster than curriculum for
regular classes and requires higher reasoning and
    analytical skills.
  • High school teachers must be specially trained to
    teach these AP classes.

3
Difference between P/AP AP
  • Pre-Advanced Placement (P/AP) classes are more
advanced than regular classes but do not directly
prepare the students for the AP exams.
  • The P/AP classes help to prepare students for the
    AP classes.
  • The P/AP require higher level thinking skills and
    move faster than regular classes.

4
GPA and P/AP and AP
  • P/AP and AP classes carry a higher GPA level than
    regular classes.
  • P/AP and AP 1.2 x grade (1.2 x 90 108)
  • Regular 1.1 x grade (1.2 x 90 99)

Things to Consider
  • Since college credit can be awarded, the course
work for AP classes is at the college level. As
will be more difficult to earn and not all
    students will make As.
  • Since the AP curriculum is more rigorous, the
student must have good abilities, strong work
ethics and be committed to the program.
  • AP classes can save time and money for students
    in college.
  • AP classes offer students the opportunity to
experience classes which are taught at the
    college level.
  • Students taking AP classes will be much better
    prepared for college.
  • Students will need to balance extracurricular
activities with studies. They need to have
    excellent study habits.
