• Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson was realistic
  high school drama. This book is about a young
  girl, Melinda Sordina, who is a total outcast at
  Merryweather High. Ever since she busted an
  end-of-the-summer party for being too loud, and
  calling the police, no one has talked to her.
• She has no friends, and, because of the
  isolation she has been receiving from everyone,
  she has decided not to talk. However, when
  Melinda was doing an art project, she was able to
  come face to face with her horrifying incident.
  The incident was her real reason for calling the
  police and ruining the summer party. She had been
  raped by an upper classmen, Andy Evans, who is
  now dating Melindas ex-best friend. Andy is
  still a threat to her, because he is still
  attending Merryweather High, but Melinda isnt
  going to sit and do nothing, like last time. She
  is going to Speak!
• I would suggest this book to kids in
  high school. Maybe if they realize what can go on
  at high school parties, they will see how
  dangerous parties can really be. Maybe thinking
  about the consequences will help them make the
  right decision.

A Rose for Melinda by Lurlene McDaniel

• A Rose for Melinda, by Lurlene McDaniel is one
  of the best books Ive ever read. It would appeal
  to anyone, especially to people who couldnt
  fulfill their dreams due to cancer. One reason
  that got me interested in this book was the style
  it was written, which, when I first skimmed it,
  was by letters, diary entries, IMs, and e-mails.
  What this book is about is a young girl names
  Melinda had a wonderful life before cancer. She
  had big dreams to a be a ballerina, a good
  family, an okay best friend, and a wonderful soul
  mate who she knew since the first grade. A Rose
  for Melinda really shows what life was for a
  person who has cancer with chemo treatments, hair
  loss, etc. This book showed me how life can be
  taken away from you anytime through pages filled
  with love, hate, jealousy, faith, and hope
  fullness. Thus, this is why I think A Rose for
  Melinda is one of the best inspirational book
  ever written.

The Clique by Lisi Harrison

• I read the book, The Clique, by Lisi Harrison.
  The main characters are Massie, Claire, Alicia,
  Dylan, and Kristen. The book centers upon Massie,
  a really mean girl who lives in upper-class New
  York, wears designer clothes, and is part of the
  clique. She attends an all-girls school in what
  they call, the Beverly Hills of New York. All
  was going well with Massie and her clique until
  suddenly Massies parents tell her that one of
  her dads old friends and his family are moving
  into their guest house until he can find a place.
  They have a daughter, Claire, who is Massies
  age. Claire is kind of poor, wears Ked shoes and
  overalls! From the moment Massie first saw her,
  she knew she was in for a treat. I like this book
  because I can relate to it, and I think most
  girls can. This is the first book in a series by
  Lisi Harrison.

Dead Heat by Joanna Campbell, Alice Leonhardt,
and Joanna Campbell

• The main idea of this novel is that Melanie wants
  to become a jockey. Some dont think that she can
  do it, but thats not stopping her. Although the
  doubters may not stop her, something else just
  might. Read Dead Heat to find out more.

Dead Heat by Anne Schraff

• I read, Secrets in the Shadows, and it is a
  really good book. The novel is about a boy who is
  trying to impress this new girl Korie. Then, he
  gets himself into world of trouble trying to
  impress her. This is an enjoyable read. You
  should read it too.
