    learning in todays schools

Field Experience Design
  • Must be Active and Participatory and
  • of Service to the school
  • Must be engaged with students in learning
    activities most of the time

FX ISSUES

  • If you are a full-time parapro, work full time
    in a public school, or are a full-time ASP worker
    in a public school.
  • If you completed two semesters of YAP in high
    school
  • If you live outside KSUs nine partnership
    districts.
  • Please DO NOT CONTACT ANY SCHOOL DIRECTLY!

Field Experience Facts
  • 15 Hour Field Experience in a public school
  • 2-3 hours per week for a minimum of 5 weeks, up
    to max of 8 weeks
  • You are responsible for your own transportation
  • Signup on-line for your placement school
  • Some schools will hold a orientation on their
    campusattendance mandatory.
  • You will be assigned to a collaborating teacher
    (CT)
  • You and your CT will devise your visitation
    schedule
  • FX for 2110 cannot count for any other class nor
    can you get paid for FX
  • Must complete FE to pass EDUC 2110
  • Must fill out the on-line FX evaluation at the
    end of the semester and present a confirmation
    sheet to your instructor to receive a FX grade.
  • Notify your instructor and OFE if you drop the
    class!!!
  • Must have a clear criminal history and one
    million dollars of liability coverage before
    going to the placement school.

CRIMINAL HISTORY INSURANCE
  • All school systems require clear history and
    liability insurance.
  • You cannot participate in the FX without a clear
    criminal history and one million dollars of
    liability insurance.
  • Follow the procedure on your handout.
  • You will be asked to verify insurance info on the
    online sign-up.

Activities
  • Whatever the collaborating teacher tells you to
    do!
  • Work with individual students
  • Work with groups
  • Monitor/Assist class work
  • Prepare content materials/ set up for class
  • Routine tasksattendance, hand out materials,
    collect work
  • Assist substitute when CT is absent
  • Assist with instruction as appropriate
  • Participate in lunch duty, playground
    supervision, bus duty
  • OBSERVE CT or other teachersespecially Special
    Education
  • READ School Handbook, School Improvement Plan,
    AYP Report, CTs lesson plans, text and teaching
    materials
  • Attend student activities during or after school
    hoursfield trip, theater performance, special
    school program, sports event, band concert, club
    meeting, faculty meeting, school system board
    meeting (May count up to three hours.)

How do I sign up for a school?
  • On-line Sign-up - http//bcoe.kennesaw.edu/2110/
  • View List of schools now.
  • Orientation dates and times are listed, if
    scheduled
  • Mapquest link to schools provided
  • Plan several choices of schools (They fill
    quickly!)
  • Sign-up goes live January 27 at 10 pm
  • Sign-up closes January 29 at 10 am
  • Absolutely no changes after sign-up closes. If
    you forget, must drop the class.
  • You need your KSU ID
  • Print and Keep your confirmation of placement

Placements are FIRST COMEFIRST Served

Theres no crying in EDUC 2110.
  • If you dont sign up for a placement school, you
    will need to drop EDUC 2110
  • No swapping schools or systems.
  • Long drives happen.
  • Many, many KSU students have child care issues.
  • PLANtake care of yourself and make your
    placement work.

Sign-up SCREEN ONE School Level Teaching Area
  • ElementaryK-5, Art, PE, Music (No FL)
  • Middle Grades LA, math, science, social studies,
    Art, PE, Music, Chorus, Foreign Language.
  • High School English, math, science, social
    studies, Foreign Language, Art, Band, Orchestra,
    Chorus, PE.
  • List of Available Schools will appear. As
    schools fill up, they will drop off the list.

Sign-up SCREEN TWO
  • Enter your KSU and personal information (e.g.
    email, phone number, address, etc.)
  • Verify your liability insurance
  • Select a school

EDUC 2110 EDUC 2120
  • 15 hours of FX in both courses.
  • If both FXs are in the same school, you must have
    a different teacher for each course.
  • No guarantee of same school placement.
  • Review both lists for possibilities.

Orientation at My school
  • If your placement school is planning a
    face-to-face orientation on their schools
    campus, the date Feb 13 or Feb 20 and a time will
    be noted on the sign-up list next to the name of
    the school.
  • 2. The Orientation is mandatory for you.
  • At the Orientation Session, the school will
    give you the name and contact information for
    your Collaborating Teacher
  • OR
  • indicate that the school will email to you
    the name and contact information of your CT
    within a few days.
  • DRESS PROFESSIONALLY. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN

No Orientation at My School
  • If your school is not planning an orientation
    on their campus, the word EMAIL will appear
    next to the name of the school on the sign-up
    list
  • The school will email you via your
  • KSU email address the name and
  • contact information for your CT.

What do I do if I dont hear from the school?
  • 1. Dont contact the school until 5 or so days
    have passed since you should have received
    communication from the school.
  • 2. Call the school. Be extremely polite. Ask
    the receptionist which administrator is in charge
    of placing students for field experiences. Ask to
    speak to this person. (Write down the name.)
  • 3. Continuing to be very polite, explain that
    you have not received your placement information.
    If you leave a messageleave your email address
    and phone .
  • 4. If you do not hear from the administrator
    in charge of FX placements in the school within a
    couple of days of your call, email
    jtraylo2_at_kennesaw.edu for MS and HS or
    sthompso_at_kennesaw.edu for ES.
  • Try to resolve the issue yourself before you ask
    for help!

Whats Next ?
  • Once you have the name and contact information
    for your CT, it is your responsibility to contact
    the CT and set up a time for your first visit.

What if the teacher does not call (email )me back?
  • 1. Keep trying for a couple of days.
  • 2. Call the school and very, very politely ask
    the receptionist to leave a message for the
    teacher. Wait a couple more days.
  • 3. Email jtraylo2_at_kennesaw.edu for issues with MS
    or HS sthompso_at_kennesaw.edu for ES.
  • Again, try to resolve the problem yourself before
    asking for help.

First visit to school
  • Download, print and take to your placement
    school a copy of the Collaborating Teacher
    Packet. Go to www.kennesaw.edu/education/ofe,
    click on EDUC 2110, scroll and print.
  • Fill out your contact information on the top of
    the Contract Form. Put the CT packet in a
    folder. Give this to your CT on orientation day
    if you meet him/her. If not, hold until your
    first visit in the classroom with your CT.
  • Read the entire packet yourself before your first
    visit to the classroom.

FX Evaluation
  • You must complete an on-line evaluation of the
    Field Experience after all FX hours are
    completed.
  • You should go to bcoe.kennesaw.edu/2110 and fill
    out the evaluation anonymously.
  • Print a confirmation.
  • Give the confirmation sheet to your instructor in
    order to receive credit for the Field Experience.
