Title: Experimental Aerodynamics
1 Filament Technologies
Our Entry in
Sponsored by the Center for Space Resources at
the Colorado School of Mines
Mars Society Presentation February 27, 2007
- Experimental Aerodynamics Concepts Group
- Georgia Institute of Technology
2Competition Guidelines
- For student created, managed, and owned ventures.
- Students must (1) have played a major role in
conceiving the venture, (2) have key management
roles in the venture, and (3) own significant
equity in the venture. - Each business plan proposal is to identify
business opportunities related to lunar and
cislunar (Earth-Moon system) space exploration
and development. - Includes ventures operating in space as well as
ventures developing technologies that will have
space implications although the initial
application will be on Earth. - New products or services proposed within these
guidelines could include - the mining and extraction of resources
- the construction of scientific facilities
- the use of lunar resources for construction,
manufacturing, or power generation - novel uses of the space environment or location
- commercially-provided space transportation and
power - Preference to proposals that demonstrate
near-term (3-5 years) feasibility in markets for
either (a) space-based activities or (b)
Earth-based activities leading to space-based
activities.

10The Space Connection
- Many advanced concepts for lunar, Mars and deep
space exploration and human habitation are
intimately linked with renewable energy
technologies. - energy storage
- fuel generation
- robotic in-situ resource exploitation devices
- life-support systems
- beamed energy systems
- Huge RD investments and the best talent at the
leading edge of technology needed - Opening the mass market to these products will
provide a large and lasting opportunity for our
enterprise - Our proposed approach advances space concepts,
while avoiding the traditional constraints and
obstacles faced by space-based enterprises.
