National Preparedness Directorate
  • NPD is the principal component of the Department
    of Homeland Securitys Federal Emergency
    Management Agency (FEMA) responsible for
    preparing the United States for acts of
    terrorism.
  • In carrying out its mission, NPD is the primary
    office responsible for providing training, funds
    for the purchase of equipment, support for the
    planning and execution of exercises, technical
    assistance, and other support to assist states
    and local jurisdictions to prevent, plan for, and
    respond to acts of terrorism.
  • NPD achieves its mission by providing grants to
    States and local jurisdictions, providing
    hands-on training through a number of residential
    training facilities and in-service training at
    the local level, funding and working with state
    and local jurisdictions to plan and execute
    exercises, and providing technical assistance
    on-site to State and local jurisdictions.

Competitive Training Grants Program (CTGP)
  • Awards funds to competitively selected applicants
    to develop and deliver innovative training
    programs addressing high priority homeland
    security training needs.
  • Eligible applicants include state, local,
    tribal, and territorial governments national
    association and organizations, higher education
    institutions, non-profit organizations, and
    private sector corporations.

  • Academic Research Initiative (ARI)
  • To generate concepts and ideas that could improve
    the detection of the movement of radioactive
    materials.
  • Helps foster awareness and knowledge of DNDO
    mission among the next generation of nuclear
    engineers and scientists.
