2 DMP Firmware Update - 80mm Print
Size
Background In order to print larger portraits,
some Markets require an increase in the size of
DMPs Image Print Area. This version of firmware
can produce a printed area of 80mm x
103mm. Older versions of firmware can only
produce a 74mm x 103mm print area.

3 DMP Firmware Update - SPPM with 80mm
Firmware
SPPM has been designed and formatted to work
with 80mm print size. When using SPPM with older
versions of firmware, and printing mixed 4 up
format, some cropping will occur. Normal Prints
from DMP (1Up / 2Up / 4Up / 6Up) are not affected
by the version of firmware installed.
Note the cropping on the Mixed 4Up print. 3mm on
the left and 3mm on the right.
Note Mixed 4 up prints are only available using
SPPM
74 mm enabled DMP

4 DMP Firmware Update - User
configuration settings
Background Some photographers offer their
customers a choice of picture taking environments
(e.g.. white background, blue background, etc)
and require a quick and simple method of changing
DMP from one setting to another.
- How to use this new function
- If you wish to use your DMP in different picture
taking environments, you can now pre-set the
camera for 3 different configurations. - To pre-set the configuration
- ) Enter the main menu by pressing the menu
button. - ) Use the arrow buttons to highlight the toolbox
icon. The current configuration number is
displayed as 1, 2 or 3 in the icon. - ) To pre-set your 1st configuration, highlight
the toolbox icon with number 1 on it. - ) Press the OK button .
- ) Change the set up to suit the picture taking
environment. This will be automatically saved as
the set up is changed. - ) To save another set up configuration, highlight
the toolbox icon and press Zoom T or Zoom W
buttons until the appropriate pre-set number, 2
or 3, appears. - ) Continue from step d above.
- To use a pre-set configuration
- ) Capture an image (see User Manual).
- ) The toolbox icon will appear on the top left
side of the display. The current configuration
number is displayed as 1, 2 or 3 in the icon. - ) To access a given pre-set, press Zoom T or Zoom
W until the appropriate pre-set number 1, 2 or 3,
appears in the display.
Be careful not to confuse Configuration Pre-sets
with Image Memory Buffers

Head Size Guide
- Background
- Starting later this year, I.C.A.O. require the
faces on all passport images to be a specific
size. - 34mm from top of head to chin
- 25mm from ear to ear
- The new size is different to any existing
passport requirements.
- DMP now allows the new headsize overlay to be
displayed on the LCD preview screen. - The new Head Size guide - INT (4up) - has been
added to the existing Head Size menu options. - The new Head Size guide is selected and operated
in the same way as existing Head Sizes - By navigating to the Tools Menu\ Head size guide
and selecting the INT Head Size icon - By pressing the down arrow in live mode until
the INT icon appears.

7 DMP Firmware Update - Print
Counter
Background Some Markets require a cumulative
Print Counter to be conveniently displayed
and visible to the photographer. This version
of firmware allows the total prints made to be
displayed on the lower left side of the
LCD. Note Total prints include total of all
prints made by the DMP printer, including
all DMP captured prints, RGB prints and
prints made from SPPM software
but it will not include Test Prints or
Prints made from Engineering Menu.
How it works 1) Enter the main Menu by pressing
the Menu Button 2) Press the Print Button 3)
The counter will be displayed on the lower left
side of the LCD screen 4) The counter will
disappear when you exit the Menu
8 DMP Firmware Update - Test Print
- Background
- A customer generated Test Print is not available
with current DMP firmware. - This make technical telephone support and
diagnostics very difficult. - This version of firmware allows customer to
easily create a Test Print. - The Test Print is a digitally downloaded from
the DMP memory. - The Test Print is a Macbeth type image
(similar to SPd 360 test print) which can be
readily analysed by customers and discussed over
the telephone.
How it works 1) Bring up the Menu using the
Menu Button 2) Press the Print Button and hold
for 5 seconds (note the Print Counter is
displayed) 3) A quiet beep will be heard and
print cycle will begin 4) DMP will automatically
revert back to Live mode after Test Print is
complete.
Note A good Test Print will show calibrated
gradients of colours Red, Green, Blue, Cyan,
Magenta and Yellow. It also shows
calibrated gradients from Black to White and has
a Mid. Grey border. The Test Print is
unaffected by the DMP configuration setting. If
the printer is working well, the Test Print will
be good
9 DMP Firmware Update - Printing a Mask /
Border
- Background
- Some customers may want to print a portrait
which includes a Mask or Border. - This version of firmware has the added capability
of printing a mask / border onto a 1up image. - Mask is previewed on the LCD screen to aid
framing. - Default Mask is copied from DMPs flash memory
to RAM ready for use. - Mask takes approximately 3 seconds to load.
- Alternative Masks can be downloaded from a PC
- Alternative default Masks can also be programmed
into DMP from a PC
How it works 1) Bring up the main Menu using
the Menu Button 2) Navigate through the Print
Format icon and select the 1 up print format 3)
Press OK to return to the main Menu. (make sure
the 1 up icon is highlighted) 4) Press the
Zoom-W and / or Zoom-T buttons to select the
required Mask Note Mask takes
approximately 3 seconds to appear and is preceded
by 2 beeps 5) The 1 up icon will change to
indicate that Mask mode is operational 6) To
disable Mask mode, press the Zoom-W and / or
Zoom-T buttons until the 1 up icon
indicates no Mask
Note The Mask / Border will only print in 1 up
Print Format mode
10 DMP Firmware Update - Alternative Masks /
Borders
How to use alternative Masks
Alternative Masks can be downloaded to the DMP
and, if required, they can replace the default
DMP mask. To do this, customer needs access to a
special Utility Program. This program is
available to Polaroid Service personnel and can
be emailed to customer if required
Use the "Test Border" button to transfer the mask
to the DMP. This can be used to preview and test
the mask design. It can also be used to download
the more complicated mask designs at the start of
the business day. Use the "Set Border" button
to transfer the mask to the DMP and to program it
into the DMP Flash Memory - making the mask the
new default print mask. If the mask cannot be
compressed enough, an error message is displayed.
Notes
Not all user generated masks can be programmed
because the DMP has limited Flash Memory
available to store user mask data. The DMP
compresses the supplied user mask, and if it is
reduced in size enough, it is programmed into the
DMP - and is then available every time the DMP is
powered up. If a user mask cannot be compressed
to fit, it can still be used with the DMP - it
just has to be downloaded from a PC every time
the DMP is powered-up (e.g. at start of business)
For best results, the user generated mask
should be 950 wide by 1248 high. This avoids
having to re-scale the mask onto the
print. Areas of the mask set to 0 will allow the
captured image to show through i.e RBG0 will
allow the captured image through. If only 1 or 2
of the R, G or B pixels are set to zero in the
mask e.g. a red area with R255, GB0, this
allows transparent areas to be created. The mask
does not have to be a surrounding border - the
mask design is only limited by the users
imagination!
11 DMP Firmware Update - Left to Right
Density Variation
Background Some customers have pointed out that
the Left Side (leading edge) of a DMP printed
image was slightly darker than the Right Side
(trailing edge) This was caused by the DMP
thermal management system slightly
overcompensating for a cold print start and
initially laying down extra print density. The
2nd, 3rd and subsequent consecutive prints
normally do not display this issue.
Direction of Printing Feed
This version of firmware has modified the Thermal
Compensation curves and resulted in improved
image quality
Note The Left to Right Density Variation has
not been completely eliminated but it has been
much improved and should be acceptable to all but
the most critical customers
