Must be Fingerprinted Prior To Teacher
Certification.When we were informed that our
students must be fingerprinted, we faced the
challenge of designing and developing a procedure
that would result in quality fingerprints as well
as meet the needs of our students. We had many
questions during this process, which resulted in
the following solutions.

Who will do the fingerprinting?Solution
Trained Student Employee

• A student worker is hired specifically for the
  fingerprinting process.
• This student must make at least a 2 year
  commitment to work in this position. Proficiency
  develops with time.
• This student is trained by the student
  previously holding this position.

How can we accommodate so many students? Solution
Time Efficient Scheduling

• College of Education students schedule an
  appointment for a specific time for
  fingerprinting.
• The appointments are scheduled in 20 minute
  increments. This allows sufficient time for the
  printing process.
• Appointment times are available both mornings and
  afternoons for student convenience.

How can we get the students to come for
fingerprinting?Solution Convenient Location
and No Cost Service

• The fingerprinting station is located in the
  Student Services office in the College of
  Education.
• This site provides maximum security, privacy and
  convenience for the students being fingerprinted.
• The College of Education does not charge a fee
  for this service.

How can we achieve accurate prints?Solution
High Quality Equipment and Fingerprinting Supplies

• Professional grade Fingerprint Taking Table with
  Double Cardholder. The double cardholder
  (2FBI/ABI) increases efficiency.
• Perfect Ink Fingerprint Pads. For clear and
  even ink distribution on fingers.
• Retabs Reprint Labels. Used to redo unclear
  prints on fingerprint card.
• BD Alcohol Swab Wipes. Helps add definition and
  clarity to fingerprint ridges.
• GOJO Hand Cleaner. Removes ink from fingers and
  hands.
• Fingerprint Record Cards. These are provided to
  us by the Alabama State Department of Education.

Results

• We consistently provide the highest quality
  fingerprints for our students better even than
  our campus or local police departments.
• We have been able to collect and process over one
  thousand prints per year using this approach.
• Students are appreciative of this quick,
  efficient and streamlined process for obtaining
  fingerprints.
