Self-Learning for Work in the E.U. Through
Dissemination of Innovative Structures and
Applications Identified in the USA and Europe
     The study concentrated on developing a
comprehensive understanding of currently
available, and publicly accessible e-learning
websites. This was directed at two specific
areas e-learning structures and e-learning
applications.

Prof. Augusto Medina
Background
Prof. Medina is an experienced consultant and
academic. He has directed numerous private and
public sector projects, and has special interest
in business development, promotion of innovation,
international development, creation of strategic
partnerships, technology transfer and human
relation issues. Professor Medina has directed
all of SPIs work since its inception in 1996.
This work includes research and development,
innovation, training, e-business and
entrepreneurial projects in Portugal and Western
Europe, as well as in Asia, Africa, the USA and
South America. Professor Medina received his
doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the
University of Birmingham, UK in 1976. In addition
to his commercial experience, he has extensive
academic experience and is currently Professor of
Chemical Engineering at the University of Porto,
Portugal. He is also an Honorary Doctor at the
Moscow State Academy of Applied Biotechnology,
Russia, has received ICEF Achievement Award in
Industrial and Academic Food Engineering in 1997
and was awarded the Chevalier de lOrdre National
du Mérite from the President of the French
Republic in 1995.

Mr. Mark Spinoglio
Background
Mark Spinoglio is an experienced project manager,
with special interests in the areas of technology
and product development, product manufacturing
and product launch strategies. Mark has also an
extensive experience on managing e-learning
projects.
Mark manages European Union project teams focused
on technology transfer and strategic
partnerships. He develops strategies for
European, American, and Chinese companies
interested in initiating or strengthening
international activities. Mark also conducts
company assessments and recommends
organizational, process, and technical upgrades
for the food processing sector.
Mark received a Master of Science from the
College of Engineering, University of California
- Davis, in 1993 and a Bachelor of Science from
the California Polytechnic State University, San
Luis Obispo in 1991.

Ms. Sara Medina
Background

Mr. Miguel Leitão
Background
Miguel Leitão is a consultant for SPI (Sociedade
Portuguesa de Inovação) with special interest in
the area of technology, having participated in
different national and international projects.
Mr. Leitão is currently involved in projects for
Portuguese companies, assisting on the
preparation of innovation plans. He is also
coordinating an internal research to evaluate
e-Learning platforms to support the decision of
acquisition of a new e-Learning platform to SPI.
Miguel has a degree in Electric Engineering (five
years diploma) from the Engineering Faculty of
the University of Coimbra, Portugal FCTUC.
Apart from his academic background, Miguel worked
for three years with Accenture, where he
developed consulting services in several
technological projects from different markets
(financial, food, pharmaceutical and railroad
industries). He also had the opportunity to work
as a freelancer consultant in the automotive
market and to be a trainer at SAP Portugal.
