1
Scottish Credit and Qualifications
Framework(SCQF)
  • An introduction for the NHS in Scotland

vocational qualification systems into a single,
    unified framework.
  • It provides a national vocabulary for describing
    all kinds of learning.

SCQF Vocabulary Level
  • Learning opportunities are described in terms of
    Level
  • There are 12 levels covering the whole spectrum
of learning, each describing the intention of the
    learning opportunity
  • Levels allow for comparability (not equivalence
    or interchangability) of learning opportunities

6
SCQF Vocabulary Credit
  • Credit allows for value or currency to be
accorded to the learning outcomes achieved
through the learning opportunity where 1 credit
is given for 10 hours of learning
  • The award of credit credit rating can only be
    done by designated organisationsuniversities,
SQA and some FE collegesas robust quality
assurance and reliable and valid methods of
assessment are needed to award credit

7
SCQF Vocabulary Credit Transfer
  • The allocation of credit points to the outcomes
of a particular programme establishes their
relationship to a level in the SCQF.
  • They can therefore potentially be transferred to
    other programmes/qualifications at that level.
  • This does not imply, however, that they can be
    transferred automatically to another programme.
  • The organisation providing the programme will
always make the final decision on the allocation
    of specific credit.

8
SCQF Intentions
  • The SCQF by credit-rating and levelling
learning will help everyone in Scotland reach
    their full potential by
  • Signposting learning progression routes
    (including pathways to qualifications)
  • Avoiding unnecessary repetition of learning

9
SCQF Aims
  • To assist people of all ages and circumstances to
access appropriate education and training over
their lifetime to fulfil their personal, social
    and economic potential
  • To enable employers, learners and the public in
general to understand the full range of Scottish
qualifications, how they relate to each other and
how different types of qualifications and
learning can contribute to improving the skills
    of the workforce
