2MQA MANDATE
- Ensures that appropriate standards are registered
for the Mining and Minerals Industry ito the Mine
Health and Safety Act of 1996 - A Sector Education and Training Authority ito of
the Skills Development Act of 1998 - An Education, Training and Quality Assurance
(ETQA) in terms of the SAQA Act of 1995 - The Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development
Act (Act 28 of 2002) requires the Minerals and
Mining Development Board to in consultation with
the MQA ensure the promotion of human resources
development in the Sector
3MQA MANDATE
- Collect levies and pay mandatory and
discretionary grants in terms of the Skills
Development Levies Act, Act No 9 of 1999 as
amended - Manage our funds in terms of the Public Finance
Management Act, Act No 1 of 1999 - Deliver in terms of the Department of Labour
National Skills Development Strategy II - Transform in terms of the Minerals and Petroleum
Resources Development Act, Act 28 of 2002 -

- Income in terms of SDL Act

- - Mandatory grants comprise of 50
- Income increased by R32 million from R346 in
2005/06 to R378 million in 2006/07, despite a
decline in gold mining industry - 10 is applicable to administration expenses
which decreased from R39 million in 2005/06 to
R34 million in 2006/07 - Mandatory Grants represents 50 of our income in
terms of legislation must be paid back to the
upon submission of WSP/ATR

- Discretionary grants approved by Board valued at
R154 million - 4 months reserves to be kept at all times
- Investments only with 4 major banks
- Clean audit from Auditor General
- Internal Auditors satisfied that controls are

MQA Flagship courses are ABET - 12 MILLION LEARNERSHIPS 43 MILLION BURSARY SCHEME AND PRACTICAL TRAINING 37 MILLION GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 7 MILLION LEARNERSHIPS 7 MILLION Smaller projects such as training of Ex mineworkers, New Venture Creation, Universities Employment Equity Programme, Executive Preparation Programme, Support to FET colleges, Moderator and Assessor grants and ABET Practitioner grants (21 MILLION)
