  • Starting the application
  • To start the application you can go to the
    Default.htm page.
  • - In the default.htm you will see all the current
    available charts, administrative functions and
    the link to the help document.

Full Chart - You can view the chart in "Full
display" format. In this view all the chart
elements can be displayed by simply clicking on
the expand/collapse icon. - You have the option
to put the picture of your employee in the chart.

3 Levels Display - You can view the chart in "3
Level" display format. In this chart display,
you can view up to 3 levels of the chart at a
time. If you click on any supervisor's icon on
level 3, level 1 is replaced by level 3 and you
can see the other levels of the chart. - You
have the option to put the picture of your
employee in the chart.

Matrix Display - You can view the chart in
"Matrix display" format. In this chart you can
still view up to 3 levels of the chart at a time.
Level 3 is displayed differently (vertical)
compared to "3 Level" display. If you click on
any supervisor's icon on level 3, level 1 is
replaced by level 3 and you can see the other
levels of the chart.

  • Standard Display
  • In the standard format you will see "Tree Chart"
    in the left frame and the "Chart View" in the
    right frame. To view the chart in the right frame
    you need to click on the employee name in the
    left frame. In the standard format you can view
    up to 2 levels of chart in the right frame.
  • You have the option to put the picture of your
    employee in the chart.

More display format - There are some more links
in the default.htm for other types of chart
display. Just click on each link in the
default.htm and view the chart.

Administrative Functions - There is a link to
"Administrative Functions" in the default.htm.
When you click on it you need to enter the admin
password. For our example we use "Manager"
(case-sensitive) as a password.

  • - If you enter to the chart using admin function,
    then you can add, update, delete or move
    employees easily across the chart.
  • - Click on the edit icon to edit users
    information.

Administrative Functions (Cont) - There is
also another link to change the
background/foreground of the chart view
(standard) format in the default.htm - Since
"Full", "3 Level", and "Matrix" chart display use
XSL, you have easy access to the XSL and CSS to
format the chart.

Customization - "Web Organization Chart" is a
simple open source application that can easily be
customized by you. For example, by writing a
couple of lines, you can display the tree in the
left frame, and in the right frame you can
display "Full", "3 Level" or "Matrix" chart. -
There are some simple examples at the end of
default.htm page to show you how you can show the
chart in the different formats and how you can
connect this application to your other HR
applications.

- Additional technical information
Software requirement - Web Organization Chart
is running under IIS, Asp. You also need to have
ADODB installed on the IIS server. On the client
side you need to have IE 5.5.
Configuring the chart To change the chart
setting, or to point to a different database, you
need to modify setting.asp page.
HR data requirement - Web Organization Chart
needs two fields in the HR table to represent
both a unique employee ID and unique manager ID.
By using these two fields, the chart is created.

Pointing to the database - Web Organization
Chart uses either dsn, filedsn, dsnless or any
connection string accepted by ADODB to open the
database. - If you can not open the database you
need to change the connection string in the
setting.asp. - To make sure your connection
string is fine, there is an asp page (called
TestConnection.asp) packaged with the
application. This is a simple asp page using
connection string to connect to the database. If
you can connect TestConnection.asp to the
database you can use the same connection string
for setting.asp - Within setting.asp you can
modify the list of fields that you would like to
display, the order of the employees, and some
other options. - For more information read the
help document.
