Using the OPAC
  • OPAC stands for Online Public Access Catalog
  • the OPAC has replaced the card catalog
  • you will find the icon for the OPAC on your
    desktop

Opening the OPAC
Open up the OPAC by double clicking on the icon

Searching the OPAC
  • Decide what you are looking for, i.e., an author,
    title of a book or a specific subject
  • type what you are looking for in the search box
    at the top of the screen (when searching for an
    author, type in last name first)
  • then click on the appropriate button i.e.,
    author, title, keyword
  • each list is in alphabetical order
  • if what you are looking for is in our collection
    and shows up on the list, highlight it, and then
    click it open

  • If you notice we did a subject search on dogs
  • we highlighted dog- care
  • when we double click on the highlighted book it
    will open up the card for the book
  • this card is like the card that was in the card
    catalog

  • Look at the bottom of the card where it says
    copy information
  • copy information will tell you the call number,
    where the book is housed on campus, and if it is
    available
  • when a book is available and you would like to
    borrow it, you need to give me the TITLE, CALL
    NUMBER, and BUILDING in which it is housed
  • I will then collect the books and check them out
    to you
  • teaching staff are allowed to borrow up to 50
    books at a time, and keep them until May 15th
  • students may borrow up to 5 books at a time for a
    2 week period, if a student has 3 overdue books,
    they will not be permitted to check out any more
    books until they are returned
