Clean Coal Technology

• Circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC)-
• Coal is burned in a reactor and fuel is kept in a
  turbulent state
• Improved combustion, heat transfer, and recovery
  of waste products
• More efficient at lower temperatures (38-40
  efficiency)
• Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle
• Coal is not burnt directly, rather combined with
  O2 and steam to formed a syngas composed mainly
  of H2 and CO
• Current efficiency 50, projected to become 56
• Better environmental performance of coal, reduced
  emissions and pollution

Three Gorges Dam will be completed 2007,
providing 10 of the areas energy demands China
Resarch Academy and NRDC are collaborating to
produce more efficient, cleaner power
plants China is an example of how renewable
energy sources can be utilized to boost the
economy and have environmental benefits.
