- General aim of the new Programme to enhance the
competitiveness of Lithuania (2008-2010). - 6 new priorities as Lithuanias response to the
EC recommendations and points to watch 2007
(will be approved with the Programme) - 1. To maintain rapid and sustainable pace of the
realistic convergence and stable macroeconomic
environment with specific focus placed on fiscal
discipline and curbing the inflation. - 2. To ensure energy security and efficiently
fight the boost of energy prices. To promote
efficient use of energy resources as well as the
development of renewable energy resources and
nuclear energy. - 3. To improve regulation and functioning of the
internal market as well as to reduce
administrative burden and develop positive
environment for direct foreign investments. - 4. To promote investments to RD and innovations
as well as manufacturing capacities generating
high value added. - 5. To improve life-cycle approach to work with
special focus placed on improving youth
employment possibilities and ensuring work safety
and healthcare. - 6.To improve the match between skills supply and
labour market demand through increasing
flexibility of the labour market, carrying out
reforms in education and vocational training as
well as promoting the mobility of the labour
force.

- Macroeconomic policy
- 1 objective. To secure macroeconomic stability
and pursue strict fiscal policies. - 2 objective. To reinforce long-term
sustainability of public finance with
implementing the pension, health care reforms and
improving the quality of the public sector
finance. - 3 objective. To implement effectively the reform
of higher education and studies with ensuring
skilled labour force supply and its matching the
needs of the labour market, to promote economy
competitiveness through application of measures
to increase labour efficiency.

- 4 objective. To increase and improve investments
in RD in particular by private business through
developing PPPs. - 5 objective. To strengthen the competitive
advantages of the industrial base and to reap the
benefits of globalisation. - 6 objective. To create a supportive environment,
especially for SMEs, through better regulation,
development of the social responsibility and the
entrepreneurial culture. - 7 objective. To promote the sustainable use of
resources and strengthen the synergies between
environmental protections and growth. - 8 objective. To expand, improve the national
infrastructure and cross-border network projects
with ensuring their security and convergence.

- 9 objective. To improve the productivity and
quality at work, promote a lifecycle approach to

supply and demand through the expansion and
increasing investment in human capital.
