  • OPPORTUNITIES FOR EU-ASIA BUSINESS CO-OPERATION

  • Aims to support business partnerships and promote
    the internationalisation of EU and Asian SMEs, by
    facilitating direct business co-operation between
    the EU and Asia at a regional level
  • Aims for mutually beneficial co-operation
  • Commenced in 1997, more than 320 projects
    supported to date across a range of sectors,
    involving 1200 organisations
  • Asia-Invest 2006-2007 to build upon success of
    previous phases with a new Commission
    contribution of 20 million

What is an associate?
  • an associate can play a supplementary but real
    role in the project.
  • However it may not receive funding from the
    grant, with the exception of per diem and travel
    costs.

Who can apply?
  • ELIGIBLE BUSINESS ORGANISATIONS REPRESENTING
    SMES
  • Chambers of commerce, government agencies,
    sector-specific trade, industrial and
    professional associations, employers federations
    and local agencies, administrations promoting or
    facilitating trade and investment, regulators,
    non-governmental organisations, relevant research
    institutes and university departments as well as
    sector-based agencies concerned with SMEs
  • A minimum of 3 organisations in partnership 2
    from different European countries 1 Asian or
    vice versa
  • Final beneficiaries are SMEs, the wider business
    community and the Europe-Asia business network

Regional dimension
  • REGIONAL/ASIA-WIDE CO-OPERATION
  • Project proposals must have an Asia-wide
    dimension. They must ensure that the nature of
    the partnership and/or the scope of the project
    activities go beyond bilateral cooperation and
    brings in other Asian eligible countries/regions.
  • Asia-wide/regional dimension could be met by
  • Including partners from more than one Asian
    country
  • Demonstrating content with a regional orientation

  • PRIORITY ISSUES 2006-2007
  • Enhancing the export capabilities and foreign
    direct investment prospects of the least
    developed countries (LDCs)
  • Ensuring involvement of less developed regions
    (LDRs) within China and India
  • Providing China Western region Sichuan,
    Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Gansu and Qinghai
    provinces Tibet, Ningxia, Guangxi and Inner
    Mongolia Autonomous regions and Central region
    Anhui province.
  • India East North East Region States of Bihar,
    Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam and
    Central Region States of Madhya Pradesh and
    Chattisgarh
  • Promoting integration of Asian countries into the
    Information Society through business orientated
    information communication technologies
  • A proposal will be considered very relevant if it
    demonstrates an Asia-wide
    dimension and addresses at
    least one of the priorities

- OVIs provide a measure of project progress -
