    located at

    letics
  • Please access the webpage through the Dawson
website and sign up for the appropriate NEWSFLASH
with your email address and students name.

3
Middle School Philosophy
  • The philosophy of Carroll ISD Middle School
athletics is to include as many athletes as
possible in as many activities as possible
thereby, exposing students to a variety of sports
that teach discipline, respect, and integrity.

4
Coaches Role in Middle School
  • The role of the coach in middle school is to
provide your child with a positive experience in
athletics that can lead to lifelong friendships,
    a healthy lifestyle, and a positive self-image.

5
Parents role in Middle School Athletics
  • Communication. Please communicate any concerns
about YOUR child. We will be glad to discuss
your child with you. We will not discuss another
child. We will also not discuss playing time and
game strategy. Your school board and principal
feel they have hired professionals with knowledge
of the sports we coach and the ability to treat
students fairly and with a positive influence.

6
Forms
  • PhysicalUIL Participation Form
  • Acknowledgement of RulesSubstance Abuse Form
  • Handbook Acknowledgement

7
Grading Policy
  • Students begin each six weeks with a score of
    100. Each time a student does not participate,
the grade is dropped 5 points. Inappropriate
athletic attire will result in a grade drop of 3
    points.

8
Illness and Injuries
  • As we all know there are days we just dont feel
well. In this case students are asked to bring a
note from home excusing them from participation.
This note is acceptable for three consecutive
days. At that point should the student note have
the ability to participate, a doctors not is
then required. Students sidelined with lengthy
illnesses or injuries will be assigned written
papers on which to work during the class period.

9
Illnesses and Injuries
  • Every effort should be made to participate. A
new law enacted by the legislature requires
documentation of a child physical fitness at the
beginning of the year and the progression made by
the end of the year. Lack of participation will
hamper this progression in your students
    physical fitness.

10
Athletic Clothes
  • Appropriate athletic clothing includes wearing
black, green, gray or white along with
appropriate shoes. During the winter sweats
should also be of the appropriate colors.

11
Lockers and Locker Room
  • Each athlete is assigned a locker and
combination. It is his or her responsibility to
memorize the combination and not share this
number with friends. All clothes should be
placed in the locker after class and the locker
shut and locked. Failure to do so will result in
clothing and shoes being placed in lost and
found. All items in lost and found are washed
and given to local charities at the end of each
    six weeks.

12
Travel Teams
  • During volleyball season we field three travel
teams. Athletes not making a travel team have
the option to participate in our Monday league.
The number of teams that participate in our
Monday league is determined by the number of
participants. Team size is limited to 8 girls
per team. Travel team games for both 7th and 8th
    grade are on Thursdays.

13
Travel Teams cont.
  • During basketball season, there are also three
travel teams. Athletes not making one of the
three travel teams will participate in offseason
or should she choose, cross country. Seventh
grade games are held on Mondays and 8th grade
    games are held on Thursdays.

14
Cross Country
  • Cross country will begin training in October.
The season will run from December through the
first part of February. This is different from
years past. Most of the training will occur
during the class period. Meets are on
Wednesdays. Cross country is a no-cut sport.
The top 7 runners per division will be on the A
team, all other runners will be on the B team.
However, it is possible that a B team runner
outperform an A team runner in either practice
or at a meet, and a changing of teams may occur.

15
Track
  • All students will be timed in 100, 200, and 400
meter events. The top 15-20 students showing the
most promise in those events will be asked to
continue with workouts. Students not scoring in
the top 15-20 will be asked to participate, if
they so choose, in other running events. Field
events are held after school. After an initial
tryout period, the top athletes in those events
will be asked to continue. All athletes are
encouraged to tryout for as many field events as
    they would like.

16
Soccer and Tennis
  • Soccer and Tennis practice will be held outside
of the school day. The coaches at Dawson will
not be your childs coach. The coaches from the
high school and senior high will be responsible
for the soccer practices and games. This season
will begin at the end of track season.

17
Tennis cont.
  • Tennis will have a fall and spring season. The
fall season is run by the Southlake Tennis
center. The spring schedule has not been set yet.
