Title: GMMA MICROSURGICAL TRAINING AND EDUCATION CENTER
1GMMA MICROSURGICAL TRAINING AND EDUCATION CENTER
- Erdener TIMURKAYNAK, MD
- Head of Dept. of Neurosurgery
2GMMA Microsurgical training and education
laboratory was established in 1985 by Erdener
Timurkaynak, MD. Over 900 civilian and military
surgeons were educated. Many important
microsurgical studies have been performed in this
laboratory.
3Programme
- History of Microsurgery
- Presentation of operation microscope and
microsurgical instruments - Microsurgical dissection and microvascular
anastomosis on the Rats.
4Programme
- Cervical microsurgical dissections of the ratss
carotid arteires. - End to End and End to Sideanastomosis on the
rats carotid arteries. - Artificial aneurysm studies using jugular vein in
rats.
5Theoric studies in the laboratory
6 Training in the laboratory
7Microsurgical training desk, microsurgical
instruments, microscope and experiment animal
ready for training.
8Microsurgical Instruments
- Operation Microscope
- Jewellery forceps
- Microscissors
- No traumatic temporary microvascular clips
- Bipolar and microbipolar forceps

17Anastomosis of Carotid artery, after opening of
proximal and distal clips.
18End to Side anastomosis
19Microvascular anastomosis with Fish Mouth
technique
20End to Side microvascular anastomosis,
Cavalrys Saddle technique, is named by Erdener
Timurkaynak, MD. (1983)
21End to Side anastomosis Cavalrys Saddle
technique. (before opening of clips)
22End to Side anastomosis Cavalrys Saddle
technique. (after opening of clips)
23Gazi Yasargil, MD, selected by The Congress of
Neurological Surgeons as Neurosurgeon of The
Century in 2000, visited our Microsurgery
laboratory in 1992. He said that I never seen as
much as perfect microsurgery laboratory like this
in Europe, including mine.
24Result
Since 1985, over 900 military and civilian
surgeons were trained and educated here. Many
microsurgical researches have been performed in
this lab and a lot of scientific papers were
published.
