What is Master Teacher Certification?
  • It is designed to achieve Governor Perdues goal
    of providing statewide recognition to certified
    public school teachers with at least three years
    of teaching experience in Georgia who
    consistently demonstrate excellence in the
    classroom through gains in student achievement.

Requirements for Master Teacher Certification
  • Clear, renewable teaching certificate
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in a
    public school (Must be in your fourth year of
    teaching now)
  • Recommended by your principal for implementing
    appropriate professional practices
  • Evidence of student achievement

Who can apply?
  • This year in addition to classroom teachers there
    are special areas for EIP, Gifted, Instructional
    Coaches, ESOL and Special Education personnel
  • If you applied last year and received a letter
    stating that you cannot apply this year, you must
    wait until the date that PSC provided you to
    apply again.

  • Some grades/subjects will involve both CRCT
    information and Non CRCT information

Why Should I Apply?
  • Recognition
  • Future jobs (Academic coach, for example) will be
    dependent upon Master Certification
  • It will make you proud!

What is the Process?
  • Applications sent to Bonnie Moreland
  • Applicant Personal Information form, Part I and
    Part IV of the application sent by courier to
    Bonnie with the principals signature
  • (When you email, put your name and Master Teacher
    in the subject line (Bobbi Ford Master Teacher,
    for example)
  • CRCT areas Email both years of student rosters
    on the template provided
  • Non CRCT areas Email template with benchmarks
    (pre/post/3 mid semester benchmarks) for last
    year and for the first semester this year.
    Include the Explanation of Data form.

Process
  • A system level committee will review and make
    recommendations
  • Application sent to the PSC
  • PSC evaluates evidence
  • If evidence of student growth warrants, Master
    Teacher certification will be applied to current
    teaching certificate
  • Master Certification is, at present, good for two
    years

Timeline
  • Window for Master Teacher is November 1 January
    31.
  • You may begin applying at any time, but Bonnie
    Moreland must have your application by January 15
    in order for the committee to verify your
    experience in Georgia, review your application
    and analyze evidence of student achievement and
    then send to the PSC by the January 31 deadline..
  • The PSC will identify Master Teachers by the end
    of March
