2Major Objectives of a Campus Landscape Vision
- Project the Quality, Character Image of
Dalhousie University as a first-rank institution
to its students, faculty, staff, visitors,
alumnae, supporters, sponsors and neighbours as
well as to numerous broader interests in the
public and private sector and the world academic
community - Address the Growth of the University population
and physical facilities and bring the Campus site
facilities back into balance with this growth - Improve Connectedness Cohesion of the campus by
providing a legible, fluid, barrier-free and
secure patterns of access to campus facilities - Develop a Strategy for Implementation of new
construction, deferred maintenance and life-cycle
replacement of site facilities in a manner
consistent with campus image, growth, access,
security and the efficient use of human and
financial resources. - Enhance Operational Efficiency to minimize
required resources and to enhance sustainability
community responsibility.
3Specific Goals of a Campus Landscape Vision
- A Campus Landscape Vision defines why, where and
how - To support the physical facilities master plan
and proposed building additions and expansions
with site improvements and amenities - To build on quadrangle and streetscape
architecture and spatial qualities - To acknowledge the importance of the linkage
concept developed in the physical master plan
study as a unifying element - To promote personal safety and accessibility
through good design practices - To enhance environmental sustainability and
community responsibility - To facilitate ease and economy of maintenance
through inherent design qualities - To budget and prioritize phased landscape
projects - To define a funding delivery strategy.
